What Benning is probably going to do...

Description
... Not what I would do.

They're going to re-sign the Sedins because they let them dictate the direction of the team. They're going to overpay for a free agent forward with size, my guess would be Maroon, but it could go any direction really. They're going to loose the draft lottery, and get skipped over at least twice, leading them to select Hughes with the 6th pick, who won't be on the team for at least a year...

I think you nailed it exactly! Sucks to be a Canuck fan. This is how Holmgren used to be for the Flyers.

Signings: while Benning does have a history of signing garbage UFAs not length contracts, I don't think Maroon would sign in Vancouver nor would such a deal happen. At least, I hope not. If the Sedins do come back, those contracts are exactly what they will get. Virtanen, Stecher, and Baertschi deals are spot-on. Maybe a little less on Pouliot but the term is fine.

Trades: Ben Hutton's value is so low I doubt he could even fetch a 4th now. He's been healthy scratched so many times + he now has a foot infection which I'm only assuming has ended his season, I doubt any team would want to touch him because of how this season has gone. It would make more sense to keep him for now and hopefully his value will increase. Boston already has their top 4 set + Miller and McQuaid as their bottom pairing defenceman so there's not much of a need to pay up for Hutton at this moment. Maybe at next year's TDL depending on how things ago. The Nilsson trade is reasonable but you've got to imagine Calgary to prefer to pick someone up from the UFA market instead of giving a 7th away.

Lines: the Sedins and Eriksson line is just horrendous. Slow, ineffective, and none of them want to shoot the puck. There's no way that's your top line. Baertschi, Leipsic, and Gaudette will have bigger roles. And where's Pettersson at?

The Sedins are the top line by default. They're always listed that way, even if the get fewer ES minutes than Bo's line. I forgot to add Pettersson. I have him as a 3rd or 4th line winger. I doubt he starts in the NHL playing centre, as he is mostly playing wing in Sweden. I also expect a slow start to his career, so I don't see him as a top 6 player right away.

Trying to guess who they are going to sign (if anyone) is a crapshoot. I figure they're going to target forwards with size, and they're probably going to overpay someone to get it. Could swap Maroon with someone similar but cheaper on a Dorsett-like contract.
