The defence is worse without Zaitsev, no need to trade him just for picks. Petrovic is an RFA. If he NHL good, a RHD gets more than 2.5m a year.

Try $3-4M more for Nylander and you’ll need pick compensation for Petrovic.

Why would we want another 3rd pair project defenseman? Why’s gauthier making more than Johnson? Why bridge Nylander? Why trade Zaitsev? What r we doing with that 11 million extra cap space? Team explanation would be nice.

We haven't got the space to fit the Zaitsev contract, and we don't exactly need the guy in the first place, so I'm not seeing the point of that trade.
