I think I'd want better than 5th->3rd if Simmonds doesn't re-sign given that y'all are getting longer-term assets and Simmonds' goal production is down this year at an ominous age - and if he does bounce back, well, he's coming due at the same time as Panarin, Werenski, and Bob. But otherwise that's well worth considering.

I'm sure some sort of conditions could be worked out based on performance/GP as well. The reason for his slight drop in scoring is because he is stuck on the 3rd line with Filppula and Weal (not quite the talent he has been playing with)

Okay. Personally, I think of it as this - if I were trading Murray and Jenner together, I'd want back a late 1st plus something nice. One year of Simmonds certainly qualifies as something nice. Also, having the conditionals be in 2019 is awkward because Simmonds isn't a free agent 'till after the 2019 draft. So here's an idea for the conditional pick:
        * If Simmonds resigns with the Jackets, the Jackets get the Flyers' 2020 fifth round pick.
        * If Simmonds does not re-sign with the Jackets AND the Flyers make the playoffs in 2020, the Jackets get the Flyers' 2020 first round pick.
        * If Simmonds does not re-sign with the Jackets AND the flyers MISS the playoffs in 2020, the Jackets get the Flyers' 2020 second round pick.

The "Flyers make/miss the playoffs" bit is basically intended to mean "the 1st is lottery-protected whether the lottery is won or not". Either a late 1st or early 2nd.

        Seem workable?

Something like this would work but I think how Simmonds performs with the Jackets in that 1 year should have a big impact on the pick. It is basically a season long rental (if he doesn't re-sign) that could put the Jackets over the top. My Conditions would be something like this...

If he doesn't re-sign and CBJ misses the playoffs then it is a 2020 1st.
If he doesn't re-sign and CBJ makes the 2nd Round of the playoffs then it is a 2nd
If he doesn't re-sign and CBJ makes the finals then it's a 3rd
If he doesn't re-sign and CBJ wins the SC then it is the 5th
Or if Simmonds re-signs within the year it stays the 5th.

Seems doable by me, tho I might tweak that 1st to also come in in the case of a first-round exit. Let me know when you want to schedule the trade call. wink
