I'd say no. Faksa and Lindell are both smart players, and when they are on the ice, good things happen. This is proven by plus/minus statistics, in which these two are the two leading players. Even though Pacioretty is decent, I would not trade those two assets. After our TOP5 of most valuable players (Benn, Seguin, Klingberg, Radulov and Heiskanen), they're just behind them. Way too important to give away.

Dallas will missed the playoff again has they only have one GREAT lines... the others have hard time to find the net... bringing a real top6 will give them a second top scoring line.
Getting TOP 6 30goals in Pacioretty (great with Radu) for Lindell is fair... + Lekhonen (20G Young Middle 6 like Faksa) + New C in Evans (2nd Best C this year in NCAA) for Faksa replacement as Dallas has 3/4C in Spezza- Hanzal... Faksa become spendable for a younger talented C IMO.

Dallas needs to trade Spezza to clear cap and then sign a guy like JVR. No need to dump Lindell and Faksa in the process.

Yes, I can see that... but Many teams will be after JVR and Toronto would like to keep him at 6M/6y.

JVR will get more than $6 mil per and even at $6 mil I don't think TOR can keep him unless they get bargains on the big 3.

6-7M range for him... Toronto getting Bozak- Gardiner- Hansey of the book in a year (Matthews, Marner big contracts) should be fine with a Cap around 80-82$M for 2019-2020 season.
Many Tor fans are building teams with JT at 12M$... so I believe JVR at 7M is feasible :-)

And those TOR fans are moving a lot of pieces to do so. Toronto needs to acquire a solid D man and with JVR on the books, that is going to be very hard to do and keep the team in tact.

Except the goal amounts of both of those players are off. Pacioretty is under 20, and Lehkonen is just above 10. Acquiring them after a bad season is a risk - and it naturally lowers their value.

Stars may get some boost to their offense from this trade - but the amount of minus to their defense is something I don't like at all...

I understand your point of view... just trying to get a decent top 6 in Dallas.
Would you accept: Pacioretty + Benn for Lindell + Spezza (Cap Dump and a need for Mtl)?

That's much closer... Although Spezza would prevent the deal from happening with to his NMC

So it's Pacioretty and Benn for Lindell and Hanzal?

It's really hard to refuse, although I really like Lindell...

Darn it. You've put me in a really hard spot here, mate. laugh

This isn't a terrible scenario, but it's not really needed. Why give up 2 key pieces to the Stars future for production that we can get on the Free Agent market. We have the long term cap space to lock up a guy like JVR so that solves your 2nd line scoring issue; not to mention the fact that we get Nichushkin back next season. Defensively, we don't need Jordie. All he would do is clog an already log-jammed blue line. Lehkonen would be nice, but not a necessity when we've got guys like Gurianov and Hintz ready as soon as next season, and then Caamano and Robertson shortly after that. The only one we don't necessarily have a "replacement" for is Evans out of Notre Dame, but by keeping Faksa we have one of the better 2-way, checking, centers in the game. This also allows us to potentially get Dickinson some time at 2C at some point over the next few years. His skillset does not work on the 4th line, which is where he's played the majority of his NHL career so far.

Like I said, overall this isn't a bad scenario, but there are some better options out there for Dallas that are nearly as costly.

THANK YOU!! Sure, it's not an awful trade, but there are equal (and better) options available to Dallas through free agency. Why give up Lindell and Faksa for Pacioretty and Lehkonen when they can get very similar production via free agency while keep Faksa and Lindell? This is more of a trade deadline deal...not one that should be made during the offseason.
