Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Step 1: As interim Team President I fire Chiarelli and replace him with pretty much anyone else. But before I hire the new guy I make some personnel moves;

Step 2: Call up Jim Benning and arrange for the Canucks to take on the terrible contracts of Lucic and Russell for the prize of the 9th and 40th overall picks in the draft. Van sends back a decent young depth forward in Motte.

Step 3: Don't trade Klefbom. He's the team's best current Dman when he's healthy and has a great contract.

Step 4: Try to lock down Nurse to an 8 year deal if it's the right price. He'll be getting way more in a couple years if he signs a bridge deal right now. Also re-sign the rest of the RFA's and give Rattie another shot in the top six to see if he can continue some success.

Step 5: Use the remaining cap space wisely to sign good veterans on one year deals only. Vanek is still an awesome net-front presence on the PP and Enstrom is still very good in the defensive end. This leaves plenty of cap space for new contracts next year if Puljujarvi breaks out and Talbot can bounce back.

Step 6: Sit back and watch as the core of McDavid, Drai, Puljujarvi, RNH, Klefbom and Nurse start rolling over teams.
