Not bad..... I think this would be smart, however, it would be nice to have a solid center like RNH to lead the team though the rough times, seeing that he has experienced them himslef

Trading Duchene for Seabrook isn't a smart move, why trade a 27 year old #1 center for a 32 yr old #3 or #4 defense man. I would keep the Hoffman - Duchene - Dzingel line with their chemistry late in the season. I like the idea of getting the picks from Anaheim for the right of Ceci and Cleasson. Overall with a couple of changes this could be a solid roster.

No from the Caps. If they wanted Holtby, he would cost more than Brown, a future first and a cap dump.

Not sure if Melnyk would open wallet to take on salary in rebuild. Oilers deal is interesting, but I think 2019 pick or any secondary pick would be contingent upon Karlsson resigning. Duchesne deal is one I don’t think is made from Ottawa standpoint.

U ignored the rest of the Duchene trade. Did u not see #7 Overall and another 1st? Anyway, thank you for the comment.

Sens get #7 Overall (which is Hughes), another 1st, and a 3-time cup champ D-man!

Of course any EK deal is made with the intent that EK resigns. Y would anybody rent him?

From a Caps fan’s viewpoint, sure, but for everyone else, that trade isn’t too bad. According to Craig Anderson’s good year bad year wave, ur gettin good Anderson for next season. Then, if u get off year Anderson in 2019, u can easily reship his contract or just hold on to it til it ends. This also gives Samsonov a chance to get used to NA rinks without him having to b the guy if say Grubauer got hurt. Then Anderson can retire and Sam can have the net.

With regard to "Anisimov flipped to Columbus" in particular and any of those guys in general...

No, we are not taking your slightly-overpaid middle-6 forward with an extended contract without sending salary back. We have Panarin and Bobrovsky and Werenski to retain a year from now, and your middle-6 forward is not good enough for us to risk not being able to keep those core guys.

Easy solution. We or Chicago can simply retain on his contract. (We are allowed 3 salary retentions)
Problem solved. Got any more complaints?

draft picks are always hit or miss, we traded duchene cause we needd a true #1 center, why trade him a way for a vet dman and a high potential pick that may not even live up to expectations is just not worth it. we can allow the young guys play without traded everyone away.

I figured we could get Dobson to go with Hughes, and then we could have them replace Claesson and Ceci.

What about Jaros or Lajoie? We have a lot of good quality defenseman in Belleville that we don't need to draft them in the first round, If we are going to get anymore top 10 picks, they should be used on our forwards to get a potential top 6 40+ goal scoring threat that Ottawa hasn't had since Heatley left. It's why Ottawa would be better off getting the #2 or #3 pick, get Svechnikov or Zadina to pair with White or Brown on our second line with Stone on the other wing.

Problem still not solved. Even at 50% it's too high unless the cap increases significantly. (We have a margin of error of about $1-2m, if that. Buying out Dubinsky would help, but that begs the question of whether or not an Anisimov acquisition is worth taking on that particular buyout cap hit.)

That trade like the rest here would b in the summer, so the Jackets have time to work something else out. They could probably make a deal to trade an RFA or 2 somewhere else instead of needing to resign them. Plus, u got JJ, Cole, and Vanek all becoming UFAs in the summer.

I repeat: We have a margin of error of about $1-2m, if that. Those UFAs are accounted for in said margin of error, as are their replacements. It's not this offseason, it's next offseason.

And this is all presuming that Anisimov's declining years are sufficiently worth it to us to go through all that, which is unlikely.
