Don't Overreact

Description
Hawks take a deep breath and don't make any drastic moves.

Hawks draft either Boqvist, Bouchard, or Dobson in the Top 10 (depending on how the lottery shakes out). There aren't any guarantees to stepping right into the NHL, but give the young defensemen a shot at camp and see how they look. If they need more time, send them back to junior/ahl/sweden and keep getting better. No sense rushing anything.

The damage done to be rid of Seabrook's contract will outweigh any cap space gained. May as well keep him and reduce his minutes. If there is a compliance buyout in the future, use it on him.

I currently have 10 D-men on the roster, see who looks good at camp and pair it down to 7 guys.

Yes, I believe the Hawks need to just play better next season. This was just a bad year, and it’s fun to break the team down fantasywise, but it’s not what they should do in real life.

Cap is going to minimum of $78M. Where is Henri Jokiharju? Sikura is not ready for the top line, nothing he showed this season would suggest that despite the small sample. Hino won't get $2M, he will get a bridge deal probably $1.5M.

You have $7.5M in cap space available conservatively speaking if the cap is only $78M; the Hawks need offensive scoring help, a backup goalie, and a veteran D guy. They had a bad year yes, but they are missing a couple core pieces that they have cap space to fill in.

Anyone else think they could target a center that projects as a #1 in the draft? With all the recent signings of D-men and Jokiharju looking to get a contract done soon, that is quite a bit of "depth" on the back end. Especially when you have Mitchell and Krys getting contracts in the next year or so. Toews isn't getting any younger and there is not a replacement for him (Schmaltz may fit the bill but then you need to fill his spot). They do have depth at C but most project as 3C to 4C.

It's a valid concern. According to the latest mocks the highest ranked centers Joe Veleno and Barrett Hayton are projected to go outside of the Top 10, meaning the Hawks could potentially take an off the board pick and grab them around the 7th spot. I guess it all depends on what the scouting department has to say about them.

There some more center prospects projected to go in the late 20's. If the Hawks like one of those guys, perhaps they could make a trade to move up from Nashville's first rounder?

Or perhaps they trade down and gather more picks if a true 1C isn't there.
