Hoffman, Smith and Andy trades

Description
First of all, Melnyk will not buy out anyone!

We hope and pray that Gaborik's body has broken down enough to quailfy for LTIR.

We hope and pray that Ryan has a healthy year and can put up no.s like his first year in Ott. (70 games - 23 goals, @50pts), and then we can unload that contract with reasonable retained salary I.25 M).

The trades: Hope and pray Philly is desperate enough to gamble on Anderson in net, in exchange for two inflated contracts, but from an Ott perspective they only have one year remaining.

Smith trade because Cal. has shown interest, but I wanted a right hand shot on the checking line, therefore I included Pyatt for Lazar. Curtis was a good guy (known commodity) who returns without the burden of great expectations - just play hard responsible minutes.

The Hoffman deal because others have suggested it, so I take their advice.

A lot of praying, but more than 15 mill. comes off the books in another year, if we're lucky - plenty of room to resign Karlsson and Duchene.

OK let me have it!

I hope I never ever see Elliott in a Sens jersey ever again. IDK how that guy still has a job in the NHL. But I like where your minds at

As a Flames fan, I guess we can do that, but the Flames are looking for top six wingers, so Hoffman or Stone would be the targets, not a fourth line guy.

I completely understand where you're coming from, but he has had some good stretches in the league, as has Condon. And lets face it they would both be auditioning for the mentors role to whichever young Sweedish goalie makes the big club the following year. In the meantime we are rid of another bloated contract. Andy has been great, but he is old and that was way too much money.

Calgary wouldn't do that. That's taking an ugly contract. The Zack Smith rumour the Ottawa beat guy was pushing was squashed. Flames had no interest in Smith, they were scouting Hoffman.

I guess I would say, top six wingers are usually quite expensive. You already have some great pieces, and Smith can play both wing and centre, and up and down the lineup. When healthy, he is a great addition to any lineup, and will protect his teammates. He comes on a reasonable contract but, he has had problems staying healthy, which is the only concern. And Curtis was a healthy scratch in Cal. a few times, for Pyatt (useful, cheap, role player) seems fair.

Its not that the deal isn't fair, its just not what Calgary is looking for. Those might be pieces in a larger trade, but I don't see Calgary making it because it doesn't fit their needs, not because it isn't fair.

I understand, I think it is interesting to look at the two teams. Calgary has just hired a new coach, and he is saying the team will make the playoffs, whereas I believe in Ott. the emphasis should be on playing the young guys - finding out what you have there and in the process making room for your star players next contract, and hopefully make the playoffs as well. It occurs to me that with those two different agendas, these teams might be able to make a deal.
So I am curious what would you offer for Hoffman, or Stone? (although I would not trade Stone).
