C'mon. Pickard is a back up goalie.. in the AHL., and was waived last October and now he's worth a second rounder? Why trade McBackup, you still need three good pro goalies.
I can't see Canucks taking so little for two years of Tanev when really the only piece going back is one year of Gardiner.

I'm with you on Pickard, I valued him a little too high haha. Don't really want to trade Mac but Sparks' contract is one-way next season so we risk losing him on waivers (which is likely). I still think Leivo is an NHL player, Babs just hasn't given him the opportunity, I guess maybe turning that 2nd into a 1st with a condition that it turns to a 2nd if Jake re-signs.

I suggest that the Leafs keep Sparks in October and waive McBackup. It doesn't hurt the cap at all if McBackup is sent to the Marlies. And if McBackup is claimed off waivers, that team has to keep on their NHL roster or else he can be reassigned to the Leafs. So, I agree with you, Leafs gotta find out if Sparks is NHL capable.
Teams hate making trades, when it on a condition "if a player resigns". It just limits the a team's flexibility during the season when making trades. And I'm not a big fan of Tanev anyway, rather have the pick.
