You have already been justifiably crucified for the hanifin deal.

but due to your Carlson signing and giving a 79 year old tomas plekanec 5 million and thinking you can get tavares, you now have 27 million to sign 10 players next year, 2 of whom are marner and matthews who will likely cost you over 20 million.

So, trade two good defensemen who had decent years (Gardiner racked up some good points, even if he had trouble defensively, while Zaitsev had crazy +/- and blocked shots numbers) so that you can sign two extremely expensive defensemen, Roman Polak and Tomas Plekanec? Not to mention trading two decent goal scorers (who are both able to play center) in Kadri and Nylander and not bringing up Miro Aaltonen. I am sorry if this is coming out harsh but this does not make sense to me. I want to get Tavares or Carlson, but probably not both for the sake of money, and it might make sense to trade one or two of those guys in the next two years or so, but I don't think that these moves help the team win the cup in the next couple of years.

That hanifin deal might be the worst trade idea I’ve seen on this site, no offence
