I completely agree. The combinations were more about having lines that I thought would be super cool to see (i.e. the Nova Scotia line). I am also a Leafs fan in case you couldn't tell... haha. There is definitely an argument to be made that there will be some young players that will make it over Gio. Shea Theodore is another real contender for the spot imho. The other option is that a righty like Dougie plays the left and a guy like Ellis, Parayko or even Makar makes it.

Make it happen
If I was the Leafs, I would not do any of these. Well, maybe the Ceci deal if we cannot do any better. But Murphy is not all that good and certainly not worth Johnsson, SDA (who I think is awesome, but whatever) and a 3rd. I wouldn't even do Johnsson for him right now tbh. I'd rather go for a better RHD, maybe Savard in Columbus although that could come with a hefty price. Neither Kassian or Eakin are good enough to warrant those trade for the Leafs in my opinion. We already traded our 1st so I would rather not give up too many picks for more depth when we already have Brooks, Marchment, Timashov, Agostino, etc.

Philly trades Ghost and JVR
I am a Leafs fan and my only real thought is: No! Please no! Never! Lol. Kapanen is good (even if he has been lacking in the last week or two) and Ghost is just not good enough defensively to fill our needs. In my opinion, the last thing we need is another Offensive d-man with a relatively high contract.
The Drouin trade just isn't quite up to the right value as well. Drouin is a bit better than JVR and Montreal probably wouldn't want to take that contract.
I don't really see the benefit in the Patrick trade. He is on the IR for pretty much the remainder of the season anyway so whatever the return is will probably be less than it could/should be. Also, I don't think Johns and Oleksiak are good enough to warrant trading Patrick right now, even if you are also getting picks. I do think Oleksiak might be a good one to get in order to get a guy like Hagg out of the lineup though.
Overall, I think you have some good ideas because Gostisbehere might be a good guy for them to move and because they might need another top 6 d, but I just don't quite think you executed it right. Maybe it's just the Leafs fan in me that thinks this though.

Chi Trade
I think I see where you are going with this, but I do not believe these are the right moves for the Leafs or the other two teams involved. Here are my thoughts:
1. Why would either team do that Nylander trade? Chicago has no reason to move Boqvist and frankly he probably has more value to them than Nylander, while Toronto does not need another overpaid defenceman in Murphy. That contract only gets in the way frankly.
2. Barrie is still a solid player, so I don't think we should trade him if we consider ourselves a contender.
3. The value is a bit off in the last trade because Hutch is worth very very little and DeSmith and a 2nd is a pretty steep price to pay for half of a season of Barrie, especially since Pittsburgh is not exactly the best team in a tough Eastern conference (particularly the metro).
Overall, I would keep Barrie while we make a push for a decent playoff run. He is certainly better than Murphy. I would also hold onto Nylander since he is playing well and the contract isn't looking quite so bad now, even if Boqvist is good and has lots of potential. So, pretty much, I don't think either deal makes sense for either team involved. But good on you to have some fun and share your thoughts.

Tough to say because, frankly, the goalies in this division are not great. I would probably pick Koskinen because he has turned it around and been pretty solid, but popularity might make it Quick.

Thanks! The only thing I realized in the last couple of days was that I think I have Brink too high. In my opinion, Pelletier should be above him. I didn't realize that I had done that until now! Ha!
Rangers fan, huh? Well Kakko is practically a lock-up. After that, it has got to be either a winger or a dman at 21 oa. I would say someone like York, Soderstrom or Suzuki most likely, maybe Brink or Lavoie.

My McJesus take
I am sorry but no way. McDavid is the best player in the league, so a top 6 30-year-old with a not-so-great contract, a mediocre top 4 defenceman, a 7th d man (maybe 6th), an overrated prospect and a 1st won't cut it. It would take a pick that could get a nearly as good player, plus a bunch more. I do acknowledge that Edmonton's GM's don't have a great history wit trading high-end players (hall, Eberle, etc) but I don't think they are bad enough to do this. The return would have to be an overpayment, if that is even possible.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Well after Dahlin, who do you have? McCabe? Nurse is much better than McCabe. Since the Sabres were willing to give up a first for a young RHD, Montour, I thought they may do the same for a left handed.
OK, that is fine, I like Sekera you do not. What do you think it would take for Gretzky to trade away Sekera? That maybe the better option as you point out. I do not think anyone would give up a first for Sekera the second time around.</div></div>
I didn't mean to sound rude or make it sound like I have anything really against Sekera. I was just saying that Nurse is better and it would make more sense not to trade him. As for a return to Sekera, you will not get much at all with his contract. He may even be a cap dump. It would be a B-C prospect or low pick of some kind if anything. So in that sense, I see where you are coming from with your idea. I just don't think it is the right move at this time.
As for your other comments and such, I would say that Nurse is better than McCabe, but not by a huge margin. I think Buffalo could look to make a move for a LHD, but I believe that it would actually be a more experienced (maybe including playoffs) or maybe more consistent player.
Overall, I would like the Oilers to make some other moves to build their future, but I personally believe that Nurse could be a part of that future. Unfortunately, we don't have a whole lot of players with trade value...

Okay, I am sorry but who are you calling "two good LHD"? Klefbom, of course, but Sekera is not really a great LHD when you can have Darnell Nurse. As for cap, simply do not resign some of the useless FA's and try to trade some of the more useless guys that make money.
I like the idea of acquiring a 1st rounder (or any other good futures, for that matter) but I do not think it makes sense to move Nurse unless the deal is outstanding, which this is not.

I agree with the comment above in some ways. Brown is simply better and worth more than Benning. However, could that be the basis of a deal? Maybe. The one that bothers me more is the Kassian one. Kassian doesn't have a lot of trade value, even if he does play a good role in Edmonton. And TVR is simply better. I also think that resigning someone like Chiasson could be a good idea so that someone like Colby Cave does not make the lineup next year. As for the Ottawa trade, I see where you are going but I don't think that deal makes sense. Lucic and Ryan are both very bad cap dumps, but Lucic is simply the worse player of the two. And Ottawa would not want to take on Russell and Sekera as well as Lucic most likely. lastly, I think a move for a goalie (maybe a backup) wouldn't be a bad idea. Or just bring in a prospect other than Starrett.
I think I understand what you are thinking but honestly, I would rather see Edmonton build more for the future if they make any serious moves at and around the draft. Not necessarily a full-out rebuild, but I believe that they need to understand that they are not strong competitors, so they need to make sure that they can be in the near future.

Future Oil
There are a number of things I want to say. First and foremost, Panarin wants to go to a big market (and a successful team at that!), and unfortunately I do not think Edmonton fits that bill at all whatsoever. Secondly, those Khaira, Pulj, Stolarz, Chiasson and Ferland deals are all atrocious, tbh. They all want more money than that if they are getting anywhere near that term. If you want to pay any of them that little, it would have to be for 1 or maybe 2 years. Ferland could get 3 or 4 million easily from far better teams in FA.
Now the trades. Draisaitl is great, but he is not worth a top 4 d-man, a top 6-9 20 year old C, an incredible prospect and a top 15 first round pick. Patrick has some potential and Ghost has room to improve, while Frost can be really good in only a year or two. Next, I do not understand the point of moving Nurse with Lucic. I do think we need to get rid of that hit, but I do not think it is worth it to move Nurse in the deal. Not to mention, Lucic has negative value so you just gave Nurse away for almost nothing. That deal does not make sense for either team imo.
I see that you are trying to show that Edmonton needs to change things up but I do not think that what you have shown here makes sense, both for the team and in terms of being realistic. Good thinking, but I just do not think others, let alone the NHL and general logic, will be able to make sense of this.

By the way, I do not think Broberg really should go at 13, but I think Arizona is a team that would pick a player like him. There are a bunch of players that are kind of thrown in random spots, so the main focus was just on which players I included at all. I have a feeling I missed somebody that has been really good (and as in the prospects game) but I cannot figure out who.

That didn’t really come out right, I guess. My point was that they would some sort of replacement for him either now or in the future, like a potentially elite prospect +. The + in my comment meant plus additional things, not more than elite. My overall point was that I do not think they will move him unless that are blown away by an offer. Also, Maatta kind of sucks to be honest, and him and Hornqvist is not enough. It would take a 1st, a really good spec and possibly more

In my opinion, that is an overpay for Hayes (especially with the clause on the 3rd, holy cow) and a not even close to fair value for Panarin. Columbus is looking for an elite winger + for him and Hornqvist plus a 2nd or 3rd line d man is not worth it. They would also need a 2019 1st, not a 2021 one. This team needs upgrades if they want to make it anywhere, but I don't know if these are the right deals to make.

Hall Trade
Just two main things I think about this:
1. I would not want to take Neal back as part of a return for Hall. He is not impressing and is not worth it for a rebuilding team who could be good in the next couple years. He is practically a cap dump at the moment. I see why you might include him, but I think futures are more worthwhile since Bennett and Lazar are not really valuable as youngsters (prospects would be better than Neal in this case, imo)
2. The Winnipeg deal is not quite fair. Winnipeg would not accept because the likelihood is that they will not move Niku unless it is super worth it here and now, and especially not if they are also giving up a 2nd rounder. MoJo is good and would take a return of that sort, but Winnipeg wouldn't do it, imo.
I am also a little bit unsure of what real value Stafford has but that is a very minor deal. This is a team that could be quite good in the future though, and your thoughts might not be too far off. I personally would not trade Hall at all because he is practically a franchise player (at least an elite one) and will do great things alongside Hischier.
Also, why dach? Is that just the player you hope for them to get? I do think that a C would be a good idea...

Why move a 2nd rounder (when we already moved our 1st!) and a decent up-and-coming forward (who we could maybe use next year), along with the goalie that is saving our AHL affiliate's season, for Radko Gudas? How does that help with cap? And to be honest, gudas is not that good.

I see what you are trying to do/say but I believe that only 50% of a player's contract can be retained in total. So, it would have to be just the 50% of Edmonton or maybe 25% from each, although I am not sure if that works either. Also, you may have actually overpaid to move up in the draft, in some people's opinion. To me, maybe a little but not by much. Last of all, I don't see Edmonton moving Klef just to dump Lucic.
