you didn't do anything to help defensively. Pekka Rinne couldn't get Nashville past the second round with a much better team. JVR can score but is not responsible on defense and our defense, as you know, needs forwards to be defensively minded.
you're basically giving Nashville a precious 1st rd pick to take our trash, not a bad idea but do you think Nashville does this deal without our 1st?

I think this team is better than Nashville up front and I don't think it's really close! Nashville's top line is their only scoring threat. Sure their D is better but with these 3 lines, we shouldn't be spending much time in our D zone. I also think this D is much better than last years. Sanheim has grown leaps and bounds and when he and Gudas were paired together, Gudas wasn't a huge liability like he was with Manning. Hagg and AMac should also be fairly decent in limited minutes.

As for Rinne, I am likely giving up too much. Elliott is a solid replacement at 50% cap to help Saros transition into the starting role. Lehtera is a 4th line C replacement for Fisher. Rinne could be a very solid goalie to have for 1-2 years while Hart gets acclimated to professional hockey.

Flyers pk was disatrous last year. Part fault of the goaltenders, but also the team is in need of quality pk players in their bottom 6.
Myers and Vorobyov are waivers exempt, so why would you sit them on the bench when they need to play to get better.
Why Spezza? He's never been thought of as a good defensive players, and now it seems like he has lost a step or two, and produced a point every three games last year. He's a down grade from Filppula, who I think is a last option if they can't find somone.
Rinne may have a year or two left, and you're giving up #15 for him? Looks like a Holmgren deal.

Provrov and Gostisbhere are both offensive D, highly doubt they'd play a regular shift together.

As the title states..."If we really want to contend while we wait for Hart"

I am just overpaying for Rinne, I know that, but if you don't overpay on here people get their panties in a bunch. This deal could probably work without the 1st. As for Spezza, You don';t need him to be great defensively and I think he produced like crap last year because he has crap to play with in DAL. He is a 1 year filler until one of our kids is ready for 3C. Not onto your complaint about Myers and Vorobyov...we both know that Hak pops guys in and out of the lineup constantly so I don't think they would be riding the pine as much as you think.

Provorov is a 2 way player and when they played together this year they were pretty good! Do you even watch the games?

Ever since you posted this, I've been trying to figure out how we could swing Rinne, Fiala and/or PK. Gets dicey in the next couple years. But I can't seem to make it work without someone taking on MacD.

Problem is that NSH is in a really good spot cap wise so they don't need to cut salary.

They aren't in a great spot cap wise. About 6m under, but 4-5m of that needs to go to Hartman + Saros. Then Fiala + Ellis are up next year. Ellis is going to get paid, so that may negate most of Pekka's contract, but they'll still be pretty tight in '19.

And next year rinne’s 7 mil comes off. I don’t think Hartman and saris are going to make $5 mil combined and Fiala, unless he has a good year isn’t getting a big payday.

Matt Kane did a 2018 fa projection, which was pretty close already for the Kane deal. He has Saros getting 2.5 and Hartman at 1.7. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fiala getting a long term 4-5m deal. Teams are trying to do those long term bridge deals after the elc
