2019 playoff berth - trades w/ BUF, DAL

Created by: jfelz
Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2018
Published: Jun. 8, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Coach Quinn can reteach this team how to both play defense and increase their possession rates, I think this team makes the playoffs. This might also be a big assumption, but Brendan Smith can't be as bad as he was last year, right? The entire team was terrible, and I strongly believe AV's system played a part in Smith's rapid decline.

I don't think CAR or MTL will trade out drafting Svechnikov and/or Zadina, and don't expect NYR to sign whoever they snag at 9 (Bouchard, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Tkachuk, etc.). And whether it's Lettieri as I have below, one of the newly acquired prospects, or Ty Ronning, I expect someone will step up and fill one of our winger positions.

Would welcome thoughts on what I have above, the contract offers, and trades. Thanks! LGR!

Does kicking in a 2nd or 3rd rounder as well get it done?

It’s going to take a lot more. The Sabres, to start, are not retaining. They are moving him, if they move him at all, for pieces that will improve the team now. Hayes is a downgrade, Sabres have no room or use for Day, and that’s a very late first and the Sabres pick only 5 picks later.

So what would be your counter offer then, with no retained money, if he goes to NYR?

Honestly until ROR finds his "love for tge game" again... hes a down grade from the up coming Hayes.
I was not a fan of Hayes, before last season. But he constantly lined up vs #1 Centres all season .
By end of he was a top Centre...

Right - Hayes scored tough goals, and played against the opponent's best night in and night out. I still think Hayes is a 2C at best, but he's going to command over $5 mil AAV. ROR's contract, $7.5 mil AAV until he's 33 years old, is less than ideal. I think my original package is more than enough for him, and with the Rangers' plethora of picks I could see them throwing in another to sweeten the pot. I also don't think Buffalo retaining $1 million a year is that ridiculous if they receive a B level prospect and a few picks plus Hayes. ROR is a stud though, and I think on a good team he easily eclipses 70 points. Put him on a line with Kovulchuk and Heart Eyes

Hayes, Namestnikov, an A prospect at any postion other than LHD or Goalie (Lias Andersson) and, 1st round pick (TB)

Sabres arent selling low so if his comments on how it sucked to be the worst team in hockey again devalue him, the Sabres keep him. ROR is not the problem on the team

Rangers would be better off giving that ice time and cap hit to ANY of their young Cs, instead.

Unless it’s at “sell low” deal, including salary retention, it should not be something the Rangers consider at this time.

Lias Andersen?! No chance dude. You’re way overvaluing ROR. His contract is nuts. He’s going to be making 7.5 mil at ages 31,32,33 and hasn’t topped 64 points ever. Yes that’s probably a product of being on the aves and sabers but still. Don’t be silly with this. What team will pay as much as you’re asking for him? Maybe Edmonton cuz their GM is an idiot.

theirs more to hockey than points. 60+ points from a 2 way center, with the potential for more if he had decent line mates, the best face off guy in the league for a couple of seasons now, and defensively reliable while being a top 6 forward, he played great at worlds too after the season. ROR will be producing well after this contract. His contract is fair and not an issue. If you can’t respect that then you don’t know ROR and don’t need ROR. The Sabres don’t need to make a trade so you need to blow them away. They are comfortable with him at 2C.
