Building from the Centre

Created by: leaflet
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2018
Published: Jun. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My plan looking forward is to build a strong centre. Three talented Cs, one of them who excels defensively. I think Nylander has the potential to play centre. I surround him with veterans for next year, and acquire Staal from the Canes in a blockbuster deal for Kadri. The Leafs finally have a reliable centre and third line for defensive duties.

I put the Marlies top line as the Leafs fourth line for next year, and let the kids grow.

There should be between 16 and 20M the year after, which will be short but feasible, probably by departing with one player.

Staal isn't that much of an upgrade, and leafs fans are giving up on Liljegren early ehh?

All in All I like reading this aggressive approach. It looks to me that the Leafs are not giving up on Liljegren rather are including him as a part of an expensive trade( Pesce the primary piece)

Ummm.... Yeah I'd rather keep Tim and Kadri. Kadri is a legitimate 2nd line C making $4.5M a year, theres maybe a handful of contracts (not including ELCs) that compare to that. Timmy just had a historical season for an 18 year old in the AHL, I'll hold off on trading him since you'll likely need him on an ELC after this season. I love Pesce but all things considered this trade doesn't make sense for the Leafs.
