Calgary trade

Description
Not sure if Calgary would demand more but I feel like that would be close (maybe sub the 2019 2nd for a 1st). Signing a 3rd line C is tempting but will cost too much and block a player from stepping up next year. Laughton can hopefully play that spot and deal with Lehtera for one more year as a 4th liner.

Additional Details:
Not sure if that is enough? Calgary has no picks until the 4th round. Simmonds helps replace the offense lost and they can afford to pay him at the end of the year. Neuvirth and Gudas help with depth and a decent option in goal.

Your deal for Tkachuk is probably fair but I don't see what Calgary's incentive really is.

The value isn't really an issue, but the Flames are not trading Tkachuk unless it's an offer that makes it impossible not to take it.

My thought process was they are strong on the left with Gaudrea and Bennett but could use some help on the RW. The trade balances out their lines a little more while picking up some assets. Of course if Bennett doesn't improve it could bite them in the arse.

Pretty solid overall, but I'd bury Lehtera and make Vorobyev the 4th C.

What is Flyers fans appetite for trading Konecny or Patrick?

That's about the same appetite Flames fans have for moving Tkachuk.

Honestly it would depend on what the return is. Different scenario though as the Flames don't have any picks in the first 3 rounds and holes in the lineup where we have multiple 3 in the top 50. Flip the 2019 2nd to a 1st and I think that would be enough "wow" factor for them to pull the trigger. Their 1st line RW had 40 some points so Simmonds would definitely help them in that area (they have more than enough cap space to re-sign him), and the other pieces are a nice return that would give them a better overall team.

Simmonds only had "40 some points" and is 31 and a UFA after one season.

Sure it would be nice to have picks, but we aren't trading our 20 year old, 0.7 ppg power winger to get them. If we want we could just play Tkachuk on RW.

Fair enough re: Simmonds, although he was banged up all year and still managed to put up those numbers on the 3rd line. So you wouldn't do the 2 1st either? Has Tkachuk played RW before?

Flames have just come out of a rebuild (despite the disaster season they just had) and are looking to win before Gio gets too old and Gaudreau's and Hamilton's contracts expire and they get huge raises making it harder to put a team around them. As nice as it would be to have two 1st round picks, they won't help us win next season where as Tkachuk will, so no I can't see Calgary trading Matty for a couple first round picks. The value in your proposals isn't bad, they just aren't deals that make any sense for what the Flames are trying to do right now.

But Simmonds, a goalie to split time with an aging Smith, and a physical dman do help now along with the picks to re-tool as needed for the future I don't see it actually happening, but just throwing it out there. Nice to have a Flames fan's perspective though.

If it goes down though you owe me a case of beer from Alberta...
