That's a total of 12.5mill retained over the next 5 years. There's just no way Chicago would make that trade. You could offer them significantly more but that retention handicaps their team in a way similar to a very bad buyout. I loved the Winnipeg crew in Chicago before the Jets came back, but he made it very clear he wasn't going anywhere when he signed that extension. Our best shot at getting a nice homegrown star is getting Patrick Sharp on a Mike Fisher-type 'come out of retirement' deal.

chicacgo doesn't trade their captain for guys that are just ok and retain 2.5 mil. Plus still cap hell after this season with all the FA's
