Even if you’re calling it a dream, it has to make some sort of sense, right? This doesn’t make a drop of sense for any team.

what dont you understand? trade the bad contracts, cut cost and then go in with the cash for the 2019 free agency period. Pretty easy to understand

Grubauer for a fourth and sixth round pick? That’s a disrespectful offer. And then you’re trading Skinner for a second round pick and a fourth liner. How are either of these fair?

What do you think the going rate for a borderline starting goalie is? Grubi has not established himself as a full time starter...the goal in trading Skinner is to get rid of his cap number ahead of his last year of contract before going UFA...Dundon loves to cut costs and spend on player he would deem his own (Skinner was already there so not one of his guys)

Robin Lehner was traded for a first round pick. Martin Jones was traded for a first round pick. Freddy Andersen was traded for a first and second round pick. So that’s the going rate. Not something I made up off the top of my head

Lehner had another player with him for the 1st rounder. The other two were gross over-pays. Here are the most recent goalie trades with actual strong comparables to Grubauer:

    Scott Darling- 3rd round pick
Petr Mrazek- 4th round pick and conditional 3rd

The Caps are not going to re-sign Grubauer and teams know it. They wont get those high returns

Mrazek was the third goalie when all guys were healthy in Philly, and Darling was a pending UFA, not RFA. There’s a huge difference. And the other guy was David Legwand in the Lehner deal, which doesn’t make a big difference one way or the other.

How were the other two overpayments? Freddy has been a borderline elite goalie this year and Jones took the Sharks to the Cup Final.
