Flames trade w/ OTT and MON

Description
1) Flames pick the pockets of the tire fire known as the Senators, offering a package of a first rounder, young players and prospects to get both Duchene and Hoffman out of Ottawa. Once Ottawa gets rid of both Hoffman and Karlson, is Duchene really going to want to stay?
2) Brodie for Galchenyuk, with Lazar thrown in because he is going to get waived. Montreal gets the LHD they need, Flames get a scoring winger to round out their top six.
3) Franson signed for depth
4) Brouwer not bought out until next year, when the cap space is needed. Currently have 5 mil, so no need to extend the damage.

CGY is better off using Brodie to try to get Pacioretty. He's a beast shooter coming off a down year.

I do think that MTL and CGY are natural trading partners this summer though -- apart from MTL forever looking for a top line center, their second biggest need is a good top pair left-shot dman to work with Weber. Brodie can skate and move the puck and is very likely on a short target list in Bergevin's office.

Patch has one year and is going to get very expensive. This way, Flames add guys who are around for a little longer.

CGY wouldn't do a deal without having extension conversations ironed out beforehand or having MTL sign-and-trade the player. The beauty of CGY's current cap situation is that no player will come in and get more than Giordano or Gaudreau -- that's the internal salary maximum that is well set in CGY. So, Patches at $6.5-6.75 over 5-6 years actually looks excellent for a guy that is as productive as he is. And you can bet he will find another level after getting traded.
