Switcharoo
So many Habs fans do not understand the conditions of that pick - they all think they are getting Calgary's top 10 1st rounder next year.
But the way it works is if CGY picks in the top 10 next year (pretty much a certainty considering they are this year, and that was with Lindholm, Tanev and Hanifin) and FLA is not in the top 10 (again pretty much a certainty) then MTL gets the FLA pick.
So in short MTL is getting the FLA pick next year not the CGY pick! So stop trying to trade us a pick that we are already going to have!!!

realistic summer draft
After CGY trades Markstrom this summer they are practically guaranteed to end up in the top 10 for the 2025 draft class and MTL will be getting the FLA 1st. Why would we ever trade the 9th OA pick to secure FLA's 1st next year for Justine Barron???

Absolutely no reason to sell low on Marky right now!

I know it’s very unrealistic but in terms of the package is that OK? Be aware that brodie and gregor won’t have to be in this trade in the off-season. It was just for cap purposes now.</div></div>
If Calgary were to ever entertain moving Andersson it would be in a hockey trade for a top 6 centreman (similar to Mitts / Byram trade yesterday).
The value above is probably there but it doesn't fit Calgary's needs

Salary retention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaun80</b></div><div>New Jersey is paying a 1st for the retention, maybe you can add another later pick if you think it's needed. In hind site yeah trading a 1st to move Monahan wasn't the best move, but at the time it was. It was basically trading a 1st for Nazem Kadri. Even if we didn't trade him away I doubt we would have resigned him last off season after he was injured again. So we wouldn't have been the team flipping him for a first this year.</div></div>
If the 1st is for the retention and taking on Vanacek then I certainly don't think Holtz for Markey straight up is anywhere near enough from our perspective. Would probably need to be Holtz & Bahl or an additional 2nd to make it palatable.

Thread:
Salary retention
Without the retention this trade is in the ballpark - I think NJ would need the first to be their 2025 pick as it would most likely be in the 20-32 range next year.
However everyone on this site drastically underestimates the costs associated with retention. You want Cgy to take back Vanacek @ $3.4M for another year <strong>and</strong> retain $4+M on Marky.
Consider Calgary had to pay a 1st for MTL to take Sean Monahan for 1 yr @ $6M ( granted this was one of the dumbest things Treliving ever did). Why on earth would Calgary take on @ $7M of salary back without proper compensation.
The issue isn't that Calgary won't do retention - Conroy has simply made it know he ain't gonna do it for free!

Noah retained is worth more than Lohrei & Merk as it is, so why is Calgary paying a 1st too? 🤯</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_Enthusiast</b></div><div>Don't care for it then... Howard was a beast on that world Junior team, and a 1st was given in addition to that. Idk if paying the much for Hanafin as a rental is realistic</div></div>
The only reason Cgy considers TB is that Hanifin has expressed interest in signing there long term. If that is not possible he will be dealt elsewhere that has a better set of assets to acquire him than a first round pick 3 years from now!

Only way to keep Hanifin AND Stamkos
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LordStanlersCup</b></div><div>if we get hanifin then there would be no need for perbix though it would probably look like:
Hedman - Thompson
Hanifin - Sergachev
Lilleberg - Cernak

It is immaterial because that is nowhere near enough forHanifin - you would have to hope he doesn't sign with whoever he is traded to cause everyone beats that offer!

Whats the trade price for him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>You will never gonna receive a futhermore Norris winner for Rasmus Andersson....... :tearsofjoy
But what about Jordan Harris, the 2024 1st round pick (WPG) and a 2025 3rd round pick (MTL) + a conditional 2026 3rd round pick (MTL) ? I'm sure that's a realistic offer for him.</div></div>
Guys you don't acquire top pairing 27 year old RD with 2 years left on a super value contract for late 1st round picks and B prospects.
The price for that type of player will always include items that hurt to give up - so it would definitely include MTL's first round pick and a top prospect.

Wow $32M in retention and a high first round pick - please name one precedent in the NHL where any team did anything remotely similar to this.
It sucks but Calgary will simply be riding out the Hubby contract and hoping they can eventually find players in a rebuild that he clicks with.
