First of all, Pens won't trade Phil next season, specially in such trade. He worths much more than a top 6 d-man, a good young player who has a upside to be nothing more than a middle line player and a 2nd rd pick.

I'm sure that when JR trade Phil, it'd be for more than that and he'll ask (and get) a 1st rd pick.

Second, no way that any team trade for Hagelin without at least 1M retaining salary.

And finally, whatta hell do u thinking when u trade a much better player like Phil to sign JvR for almost the same salary for 7 years!?!? We're in a "win now mode" and the terms for JvR are terrible. Specially because of the lengh of his contract and the fact u traded Phil to sign him. That makes no sense at all, man.

Try again.

We won't need to retain any money on Hagelin because he's in the final year of his deal. We won the back-to-back cups because our 2 best players and our depth players were better than anyone else. Kessel isn't a a necessity, he is a luxury. If we can acquire a 3 or 4 type dman and young player that is already better than Sheary, with solid upsid, then we would be just as good as this year's team. With the addition cap space we create in these trades we can sign a 35+ goal score and a game-breaking player like Calvert who will do what Hagelin was supposed to be doing for the past 2 years.

You can't convince me with any argument that we need to trade Phil to make those bad moves. Sorry.

Even strength goals. Kessel(22g), Sheary(16g), Hagelin(9g), Kuhnhackl(2g) and Ruhwedel+Oleksiak(5g) = (54g)
Vs.
Van Riemsdyk(25g), Sprong(projected)(13g), Kempe(15g),
Calvert(6g) and Martinez(7g) = (66g)

Sprong will be in the NHL regardles of the moves you made, so adding his scoring to one side and not the other is disingenuous at best and stupid at worst. Besides, I don't know how you can call a scoring machine like Kessel a luxury, and anyone who thinks Matt Calvert is a game breaker can't be taken seriously.

Someone who can gets breakaway on consistent basis is a game-breaker because they get those great looks. Kessel is not a scoring machine. Not even close. Kessel is such a good player. But also has a ton of deficiencies. Nothing wrong with that but I think we can would be better off without him IF we can sign Van Riemsdyk or Neal.

I was comparing players that I got rid to the players that take their spots in the lineup. Sprong wasn't in the lineup last year. Just like Van Riemsdyk and Martinez weren't in the lineup last year.
