Bogo has considerably better stats when healthy than Prosser, and when out, he doesnt hurt their cap. Wouldnt they sign Murphy cheap too anyway. Bogo is a pretty good Dman, his injuries issues ruined his career, but if they get 60-65 games out of him as their 3rd pair RHD, he'll be well worth the money and the D would be dangerous. I think its a low risk gamble and gives them 2 years to develop some RHD replacements. Baptiste is going to be way cheaper than Coyle and could produce close to his level from last year. He has scored well at the AHL level, but keeps getting relegated to 4th line roles in Buffalo to "teach him the 2 way game." When he got a chance to play with some talent, he looked pretty good. Instead of a buyout they roll some dice, if it doesnt work then they didnt lose much while saving a ton of cap space to resign their important RFAs.
Prosser is the ideal 6/7 d-man. He's cheap, reliable, and plays a steady game. He's not going to light the world on fire but for 10 mins a night I'll take him even with his warts. The expected 3rd pair isn't really a concern for MN. I'd rather try to get Folin back for ~$1m and fill that slot for free.
Baptiste would have a 50/50 shot of making the Wild out of camp. Even then it would be in a bottom-6 role. I don't see him being a ~40p player next season. It's not even a given that Buf doesn't send Baptise through waivers to start next season. There is a chance he could be gotten for nothing then.
Coyle wasn't good last year but the torn ligaments in both his wrists and the broken leg. I'm not concerned about him being injury prone he played something like 300 straight games before this season.
I don't have a problem with the Wild getting Larsson or Baptise, but I wouldn't pay much for either of them as bottom-6 fillers. Greenway and Kunin could probably have similar production as either of them filling the spots from within.
I'm all for the Wild taking a gamble this offseason, but this one seems like a really bad bet.
