I think this was honestly a win-win in hindsight. Hamilton has truly potential to be a top 5 defender in the league and Lindholm has found a great spot in Calgary, something he could never quite reach in Carolina. Now Hanifin is nothing like Hamilton, especially offensively, but he's a young stud and has room to grow. I can't say if Hamilton is bad for locker room, but doubt it. He's a fantastic defender and last season was one of the best, and he has the statistics to back it up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>TBF Im happy you feel its an overpay, you gotta remember Im doing this from the perspective of a Rangers fan. I think the fact that were making the Hawks retain (at minimum) 3 million will cost us something extra.
To me Strome doesnt have much value, whatever value he does have is tied to Panarin. Lundkvist and the 1st potentially are the only thing of significant value here.</div></div>
From a Rangers fan perspective then: what would be the logical reason to trade away key pieces for future right in the middle of what looks like an extremely successful rebuild? Acquiring someone like Toews makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

My god. Capfriendly really should delete this feature. And it's all because of trades like this.
Potentially losing 2 first rounders, Ryan Strome AND top prospect in Lundkvist for Jonathan Toews??! What is wrong with you.

Leafs Prediction
Wayne Simmonds is not an NHL caliber player. He was once a presence in front of the net and had a nack for scoring from there, but it's gone now. He's a slow unreliable has-been winger who's a liability everywhere on the ice. You'd make a drastic mistake by signing him. But of course Dubas knows all this and would never sign him.

This sums up how clueless people are here. Look at his stats, the advanced ones. He's extremely reliable on own end and very much durable second pairing d-man. Given the fact that Jensen and Kempny are locked in extremely cheaö contracts giving Dillon 3.9M is far from a bad signing.

PULJU
Let me tell you something. As a Finn, I've witnessed Puljujärvi play for quite some time. He has the IQ of a pigeon and doesn't fit the fast paced NHL style of play. He'll make a decent career over here in Finland, but that's it. Kekäläinen knew all this back at the draft in 2016.

Very cheap price for a versatile center that the Sharks desperately need. Good trade for SJS, don't really know what the plan is fro Guerin and Wild tho.

His character? I'm not. You're the one who went on and on about why Calgary lost this trade. Trying to explain every single piece of the trade, while not really knowing the caliber of Lindholm and Hanifin at all. Go ahead and tell me how stupid I am, but you were wrong here and can't admit it.

Retooling - trades with TB CGY OTT
If Tampa was going to make a deal on Panarin, it would be rental deal. They still have Point to sign and he's going to get paid a lot. There's no way they would give that for Panarin, who wants closer to 10M AAV

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenks</b></div><div><strong>"Undermining me makes you feel smarter?"</strong>
No it doesn't....I just pointed out that you gave an opinion & then supported it with unrelated evidence.
And that the stats tend to disagree with your opinion (though I'm aware that stats aren't everything).
With that said....
<strong>Undermining 24 year old Dougie Hamiltons character makes you feel smarter?</strong> - This comment can go both ways.
His behavior was never a problem.
He's quieter than most hockey players & may be a bit on the neurotic side (intelligence alone doesn't get you a 99% average in high-school).
There are a lot nerds in the world....they just don't usually play in the NHL....which might have made him an oddball in a locker room full of bro's.
That doesn't mean he's immature or has behavioral problems....just different than whats normal in his environment.
<strong>In terms of the trade.....Given Dougie's age & talent....a smart organization would have:</strong>
1. Worked with professionals to help him improve relationships & assimilate to the environment.
2. Traded for other (good) players with similar personality types....to help balance out the dressing room.
<strong>Instead....Calgary:</strong>
1. Traded him for a similar & younger....but vastly inferior player in Hanafin (his highest upside is what Dougie is now).
2. Swapped forwards with similar talent & potential.
3. Gave away their best defensive prospect (possibly their best prospect in general).
Even if Fox wasn't going to sign in Calgary....he had plenty of trade value on his own....and didn't have to be shoe-horned into this deal.
<strong>Calgary lost this trade....and Dougie was worth the full return on his own.
Carolina is about to get a lot better....and DeHaan is just as good as Hanafin at the moment (just less potential).</strong>
I'M A LEAF FAN....SO I'M NOT SPECIFICALLY TRYING TO BE BIASED HERE.
BUT IT SEEMS THAT WE DO HAVE A BAD REP....SO TAKE THIS AS YOU'D LIKE.</div></div>
How bout now?

This has aged nicely. Everyone praising the Canes for this deal and Flames are cruising in the top seed, while Canes are shopping what they got from this deal.

D Upgrade?
I don't get the idea of trading away Gardiner because of one bad game. You don't upgrade your d by trading away your #2 guy for another might be #2 guy. You need to use other assets to obtain a dman without losing one in order to upgrade the top4.

That literally has NOTHING AT ALL to do with what he does on the ice.....
His stats are elite though.....regular ones& advanced ones.....I'm sure that's irrelevant to you though.</div></div>
Undermining me makes you feel smarter? Lmao. Stats are important, and of course no one can deny that his performance on the ice might sometimes be on an elite level, his off ice behaviour or locker room presence causes disfunction in the teams that he has played in. If he was simply immature, like Seguin and Carter were before they were traded, he wouldn't have been traded twice already. There's something that you and I can't see that makes him not wanted in teams.
