For all the defensmen you think Letang is the one to trade for? He can't stay healthy for a full season and his team literally won the cup without him. Sure give Nylander and 1st for that.

Washington Capitals signed Michal Kempný (4 Years / $2,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyplayer1</b></div><div>Its funny how often I see comments like this. Caps fans needing to always flex their muscles because they beat the penguins once is laughable.
I rooted for the Caps and Jets most of the playoffs but seeing how the Caps fans bash the Pens at every chance they get is just sad. Act like you've been there before.</div></div>
Who's flexing? Are u kidding? You heard the bashing and chirping when caps lost year after year? Even after this year Pens fans have been crying that caps 'cheated' or played dirty. I was stating the facts, pens fans are bashing on and on all the fkn time, go check Twitter or Facebook. If anyone really thinks this is a bad contract, they are retards. Pens fans are bitter, not because they lost this once, but because they can't call Caps chokers anymore.
And that, if something is LAUGHABLE.

Don't really know what you're talking about. DSP was a hitting machine, blocked shots and wore the opposing players down with his grind. The goals were obviously important but especially his grind was fantastic.

Cap space if hits are worthless.
The way I see it is that Vrana and Burkie need to have bigger roles to allow them to develop. Caps have a great opportunity to that in their roster, cos they have so many veterans and now with Cup winning experience. They really don't need to add anyone. Maybe a couple depth guys if Chiasson and DSP walk, but not necessarily even then. They have plenty of young guns in the minors and I say let them have an opportunity to step up instead of signing older guys from free agents. Just how I see it.

It's really not negative value, when you can sign back your best dman and may even end up getting brooksy back. Signing Nash and Grabner serves no purpose whatsoever. And overpaying Grabner serves only him.

Yea, ROR is definitely not #2 C. Look at the man's stats. 81 games over 60points, nearly 140 takeaways, best faceoff% in the league and 2pim!! Overvalued?? He's like the most underrated player in the league.

Carolina wins. Not sure exactly what compelled Treliving to okay this deal.</div></div>
Who's elite? Hamilton? He's 25 and been traded twice. That's far from elite. He's a whiny kid and Calgary got the better part of this deal by a mile. Hamilton forced Bruins to trade him once already.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>You don't just retain the cap hit, you retain the salary too. The Kings only pay him $4.875M this season, so if the Kings retained 20%, his salary cap on Carolina would be $4.2M, but Carolina would only owe him $3.9M. It goes down even more for the final two seasons.
I'm not saying I agree with the Kovalchuk signing, but if Phaneuf was traded, the team that acquired him wouldn't have to pay a lot as you suggest.</div></div>
Phaneuf's salary is 6,5 6,5 and 5,5M. It's a lot for a team like Carolina that isn't willing to pay really anyone. And 1M retained from 7M is 14%.

I really don't understand signing Kovy, not one bit. Also, Phaneuf's salary is 6,5M with 6M cap hit if Kings were to retain 1M. Carolina might take Hossa's contract to reach the floor but not Phaneuf's cos they have to actually pay him A LOT. Amd Carolina is a team that simply doesn't spend their money.

It's a brutally bad deal. What I wonder, as an outsider, is whether they left better deals on the table to avoid facing Orpik, and Grubauer all together in the first round, next Spring, to say nothing of Trotz.</div></div>
If no one takes Orpik, he will be bought out. That's an official statement from Avs.
Would be a boss move to sign him back with 1M cap hip for a year .
