Yeah.... don't really need him. Do you actually write anything about hockey, though, or just doubt and surprise?

I do, on posts that actually make any sense. Even though, I don't have as much of a hard-on for staring at +/- and hits as game changers as you do.

The league board of governors said in December to USA Today it would end up between 78 and 82M. Did i miss a big recession or drop in sports viewership after that, or are you just destroying your own credibility for the hell of it?

Yeah they said as low as $78 million or as high as $82 million Daley just said that it's probably going to be closer to $80 million and he's over the NHLPA so he's the one that decides by the escalator if it climbs or not.

Orpik is a beast. He played the last 2:22 of the season to keep a one goal lead when the West's fastest team pulled their goalie. He played on the Caps' top penalty killing unit. He has two Cup wins, and only one year left on his contract, with only 4.5M left in salary. His cap hit of 5.5M is high for a lot of teams, but teams that aren't spending up to an 80M cap aren't going to sweat the averaged cap hit. They'll see a good penalty killer, tough checker, and team leader at a reasonable salary. If a year of Methot, TVR, or Emelin was worth a 2nd round pick, a year of Orpik is worth at least a 3rd. If Hjalmarsson was worth a really good young defenseman, Orpik might even fetch a half decent one.

Neat. 80 is plenty of cap space for the Caps to keep Orpik, add Carlson, and not worry about it.

Nope, only if you can ship out Oshie (most likely can't because of his term), you also underpaid DSP and Beagle by at least 500000 each.
For Orpik, he was only good in this playoffs, but didn't score a goal for like two years, is probably the slowest defense man in the league (If you watched the regular season you know), and you need him gone to sign Carlson

Don't be ridiculous. Here's an 80M Caps team with Carlson, Orpik, Oshie, and Wilson: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/144732&post_id=494824

It's not doubt, if I simply state my opinion on these stupod decisions. And they are excactly that. You can't just stare at some statistics from playoffs and state them as facts. Look at the big picture, the career stats and there you can figure out how it's gonna go from now on. How many times have we seem someone play really well in one playoff summer and then fade out? Hundreds of times.

Sure. The stats show what someone did with a certain type of team around them that complimented their strengths, and with a certain coach and strategy, etc.

I actually agree that Tavares signing in Washington, if he's going to want 11M, isn't going to leave the Caps with a competitive team this year. Just testing possibilities.

Your assumption that each post is my dream or fantasy or goal for the Caps is not meeting the level of conversation this board is capable of.

What i instead of namecalling or trying to judge each other's intelligence, we talk through each team's strenghts and weaknesses like rational human beings.

For a second there, it almost looked like you were going to compare and contrast what it costs to have Tavares with what benefits he brings.

That was really cool.

There's plenty of room to sign Carlson and Wilson and everyone else. If the salary cap goes to 80M, currently Caps have almost 19M to spend then. Take even 9M out of that for Carlson, which is way too high assumption, and still have 10M left for the rest. Wilson had a good season and terrific postseason, but he's not gonna get more than a bridge deal with 3,5M max.

1.you would be lucky to get the 7th round pick for orpik, that contract is terrible.

2. you are already over the cap without orpik.

grubi is all the value in that deal lol. I never said they couldn't get rid of him, just that they had to package other stuff in to do it.

Sakic wins that one so hard.

It's a brutally bad deal. What I wonder, as an outsider, is whether they left better deals on the table to avoid facing Orpik, and Grubauer all together in the first round, next Spring, to say nothing of Trotz.

if you expected to get much higher than that you are dreaming, maybe another 6 spots. The caps had no choice to make a trade somewhere since they could not afford the cap hits, for an extra half dozen spots it was probably worth not trading within division.

If no one takes Orpik, he will be bought out. That's an official statement from Avs.
Would be a boss move to sign him back with 1M cap hip for a year .
