Yea, ROR is definitely not #2 C. Look at the man's stats. 81 games over 60points, nearly 140 takeaways, best faceoff% in the league and 2pim!! Overvalued?? He's like the most underrated player in the league.

Players involved in the exchange like, but confuse the contracts, Granlund and Spurgeon left two years, meanwhile, ROR and Risto long-term deals.

He's a very good player, but he is not a legit #1 center...no one but you thinks he is. Plus, how can you undervalue someone when he's paid $7.5 million a year???

Part of what brings ROR's trade value down is how long his contract is.

ROR is absolutely a 2C, he'd only be a 1C on a team like MTL where center depth is very thin. I like the trades as far as value goes, honestly you might even be able to get more from BUF if you're giving up that much. Not sure what your logic for the trade breakdown was but I see it as Granlund for ROR and Zucker + Spurge for Risto + Larsson. Granlund is a better player than ROR and that makes up for the retained salary even though ROR plays a more desirable position. Spurgeon and Zucker for Risto seems like a lot going Buffalo's way. You might be able to squeeze Reinhart out of that deal if you added a little more. If we get Risto AND keep Dumba our D would look fantastic for at least 4 years. I'd be ecstatic, not to mention swapping Brodin for Nurse. I'd much rather trade Koivu and keep Staal if we traded for ROR but I'm not sure if EDM would want Koivu.

I traded Staal in this scenario because Koivu doesn't have nearly the trade value as Staal. In order to "get" Nurse and Puljujarvi, no way a Koivu-based trade makes it happen.

I would break down the Sabres trade as: Spurgeon plus part of Zucker for Risto and Granlund and part of Zucker for ROR, with Larsson being the extra to even it out. Maybe the Wild could get more, but I'm not convinced of that. BIG RHD who can play in all situations and with piss and vinegar are very, very rare and I feel like it would take all of what I offered to make this deal happen.

Take out the EDM trade and I like the team much better. I'd rather have Brodin paired with Dumba/Risto over Nurse. ROR/Koivu are rather redundant as top-6 centers. Keep Staal and move Koivu to 3C, Larsson as 4C and I like the center depth much better.

I don't see why Buffalo makes this trade. It strips their center depth and as much as I like Mittlestadt I think he needs at least a year of 3C before he steps into a 2C role. It also only guarantees 2 years of Granny/Spurgeon. It would be a win now move for a team that is still deeply flawed in the bottom-6, defense, and at goalie.
