CGY trade + Kovalchuk

Created by: jfelz

Description
Thoughts on the Hamilton trade? Kevin Hayes and Skjei contracts? Assuming NYR signing Kovalchuk is actually a pipedream, who replaces his roster spot, and does that person also make this team competitive?

I'm also assuming that Zadina is picked in the top 5 where he should be picked, despite the crazy people suggesting he might fall to the Rangers at 9. Additionally, assuming that neither Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, or whomever else they might take with the 9th overall makes the team out of camp.

I think that offer would work in terms or value but it wouldn’t happen. I think Calgary would be looking for Hayes or even Namnestnikov. Don’t really think they’d want Zuuc cause they already have playmakers and wingers. Plus, he’s getting older and has an expiring contract.

Flames would need a young, high scoring right winger on a good contract (the forward version of Hamliton) to make it work.

The forward version of Hamilton would be an elite right winger. Nobody is giving up an elite forward, plus two high picks, and a young RFA for Hamilton. That would be, I think, madness. I get that Zucc might not get it done, but he saves them cap and has averaged 56 points a year the last 5 years. Put him on a line with Johnny Hockey and Monahan and he could give them exactly what they've been missing on the right side.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean add an elite right winger, I meant the trade doesn't work because there isn't one. So no trade. If you want Hamilton, come up with a trade proposal that does that. Even if Zuch was a good fit, it would be for one year, so its not a good fit, just a rental fit. When trading for a 24 year old elite right handed defenceman on a great contract, remember that the trade needs to line up in both talent, cap implications and length! Its like the Panarin deals Columbus fans want. Yes, he is great. No, he is not fetching an unbelievable return, because he only has one year left.
