Big RFA Swap? (TOR/VAN/CAR)

Created by: BeterChiarelli

Description
I'm assuming with the TOR trade that they've done some sort of deal revolving around Gardiner for Myers, which from my perspective makes a lot of sense.

Leafs defence would look like:
Riley | Myers
Nurse | Zaitsev
Dermott | Hainsey
Ozhiganov

Getting the money to work next season is completely reliant on moving Sekera and Russell to whoever wants them. 2019 1st and 2nd should be up for grabs.

Draft (RD) Adam Boqvist at #10: in terms of BPA and positional need, he's fits both bills.

AHL Roster:

Saarela | Marody | Rattie
Benson | Gambardella | Vesel
Safin | Malone | Russell
Vesey | Larkin | Hebig
Callahan

Lowe | Bear
Lagesson | Mantha
Jones | Boqvist
Stanton

Montoya | Starrett

Not enough, or Will Nye really shouldn't be moved?

A bit of both. If nurse was a RHD then maybe leafs would listen. We are very stacked on the left side which would be having nurse wouldn’t be needed.

Which is where the description comes in handy. It assumes the Leafs have done some form of Gardiner/Myers swap. Dermott was a nice surprise this season, but his wheels fell off during the Calder Cup finals. Part of it was injury, but he didn't look comfortable once he was sent down to join the Marlies. Possibly, he may not be ready for >18min/night. Nurse really solidifies the defence core.

Not unreasonable to say he shouldn't be moved though. Upgrade the 3rd to a 2nd?

As Jakem said about Nurse and the Leafs LHD. To me the real reason is that it looks like Nylander HAS to play centre this year, so he's almost untradeable unless a competent centre is found.

There's always Tavares tears of joy unless you haven't yet read that report, then yeah. Weird that they wouldn't try him at center this year. Unless Lou wanted Babs using him predominantly on the wing to make his next contract cheaper.

Last year the Leafs had Bozak, and Moore, plus at TDL Plekanec. Willy did play centre in the absence of Matthews. You just can't go into the seasons with Matthews, Kadri and AHLer Aaltonen (who I think is going to be OK). Now if Tavares is a Leaf, somehow, then it makes sense to trade Nylander for a good Dman.
Regarding his play on RW. I've been critical of Babcock and his line match ups. I certainly don't think it was plan to lessen his value. Babcock is just so set in his inane line make up and line match ups, IMO he cost the Leafs games. That's why I think (without proof) that Matthews and others are pissed at times having Babcock as coach.
