Congrats Islanders... If JT is smart

Created by: tozzy2205

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I want to say congrats to the islanders for landing a solid coach and it looks like things may be on the turn around with the news of JT likely resigning...

However, if Im JT i more than likely only include a m-ntc or sign a small term deal.... if the islanders done show major progression within the next few years he should leave and go some place where his talent can be used to pursue a cup....

He says he wants to win with the isles, so they hire arguably the best GM of all time and the defending Stanley Cup winning coach, and likely trade for a goaltender by the weekend - if he leaves now, what does that say about him?

I see you’re point but “Best GM of all time” had me in tears ?

It says "I want to win"

Just because you bring in Lou and Barry (and I have nothing but respect for both of them) You still have GAPING holes in that lineup. The D is god awful and what goalie is there? Grubauer? Be realistic about this. Gru isn't a #1 yet.....he may be in a year or two, but with that defense in front of him.....yikes.

The forwards aren't all that spectacular either. Aside from Barzal there is nobody there that can elevate that team to new heights. Bailey had a career year, Eberle is the ultimate underperformer, Ladd?? Lee?? Not 1st line players.

The rebuild starts somewhere. But if I were him I'd be looking to a team to win within the next 4-5 years....Isles won't be ready for that.

imagine saying a guy who scored 40 goals last season and 34 the year before that isn't a first line player

isles offense was seventh in hockey last year. they're heavily linked to grubauer and it sounds like they'll get him, then if they add a dman or two, they're easily a playoff team.

ladd is a solid defensive forward (actually had some of the best metrics in the nhl last season), and he can bag 20 goals, he just makes too much.

and, last but not least, eberle had 59 points, beauviller is 20 and had 21 goals in 70 games, and pulock looked very strong last season, especially towards the end.

you can talk them down all you want, but the islanders have gained a lot of respectability this offseason.

Ok, I'll give you Lee.

Wouldn't it be super easy to "just add a D man or 2" to make your team better? If only other teams have tried that method.....

Yeah the islanders were 7th in Offence....also you guys let in 296 goals! More then anyone in the League! 35.6 shots per game!

Yes your PP was 6th but your PK was DEAD LAST!

Realistically, unless you get a top flight goalie, Carlson, and 2 shut down defensemen , you won't beat:

Tampa Bay
Pittsburgh
Vegas
Winnipeg
Toronto
LA
Boston

All have better teams

The isles have enough draft capital and prospects to make a few deals in the coming days.
