Understood. Also Keller doesn't want to play in Arizona next year and that kills value. Also Arizona doesn't want to pay anyone so they get an insured contract in Muzzin. Big win there and Robertson is cheap.

Normally I'd agree....but they do have to retain 50% of that contract. I'd be willing to bet that it'll be pretty close to this when he does get dealt.

Absolutely! If we trade Andersen I would do this in a heartbeat

Is Pietrangelo Possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mondo</b></div><div>It's possible.
ASIAK, Pietrangelo is more interesting in the structure of a contract instead of just length and salary. Specifially, in the form of signing bonuses, which is essentially a guaranteed chunk of cash at the start of every season. St Louis doesn't do this, since this money is not able to be bought out, still has to be paid during a lockout and could chip off a value of a trade down the line.
Toronto would be able to provide Pietrangelo with a front loaded deal and the guaranteed money he's after; the Tavares and Matthews contracts are pretty much league minimum salary with 10 million bonuses. However, they wouldn't be the only team to provide this and someone could provide a better bid in terms of total value, while still providing the same concessions.
The only major advantage Toronto has over everyone else is that Pietrangelo is from Toronto. Unless his hometown fervor gets him to sign something that wouldn't handicap the team, I don't think he's coming here.</div></div>
I don't think he is either. I'd love to have him but not if we have to sacrifice this much to get him.

I dunno about that. If Detroit can get him signed I think its a very shrewd move for Yzerman. Detroit desperately needs a goalie.

Why pay for the rights to Pietrangelo if Toronto is going to sign him for 7 years?? The contract, with mostly signing bonuses and NMC, is sufficient to get him signed. The only reason to trade for his rights would be for an 8th year...</div></div>
Well regardless we have to shed salary....send Dermott over to create that cap relief and get an extra year if you want it. Otherwise it saved me from tryin to figure out where to send Dermott

Best Top 9 In The NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Carolina pass hard. Kerfoot is a good piece, Andersen is a lateral move for 1 year, Holl is just bad and while SDA and a 1st are nice, Carolina are contending, not selling for the future.</div></div>
Andersen is 100% better then both of your goalies. Hands down. He'd be a top 5 goalie in the league if he played on a team with any defense. Holl is also not "bad". He's a 4-6 Dman with a very reasonable cap hit. He's exactly the kind of contract every team needs. Are there better options? Sure. Are there worse options? Definitely.
Now, I don't think the trade is what Carolina is looking for so I'd assume they would pass.

I don't know how you can definitively say that he wouldn't. Unless you have some insider knowledge that I don't know about. And literally no other contender has the cap space for that. But whatever I'm not trying to argue here. I'm simply exploring what was reported today

But your roster size, and the Leafs aren't challenging next season, keep five years of Kapanen instead of trading for one year of Faulk.</div></div>
I don't think they robbed the Leafs at all. Muzzin is a good D man. Better then Gardiner in the D zone. Pair him with Miller (who can move the puck) and that Pair is better then the Muzzin Zaitzev pair. I also think this team is much more well rounded then last years team. Proper players playing proper roles. Roster size will have limitations until we can fit someone else under the cap. Or unless there is another trade

If Leafs made that trade with Vancouver I'd have to stop watching this team. That, imo, is an awful trade for the Leafs. Giving up a very YOUNG, fast and skilled penalty killer/sniper for a guy that can't stay healthy. Ever. And to boot, he's a UFA. No thanks.
I can't stand all the Tanev talk surrounding this team. Yes he's a good D man. Can't stay healthy at all. Move along

Maybe.....Sandin and Liljegren would be, for me anyway, untouchable in this trade. Maybe a Rasanen type and a pick.
