I dont think Orpik or the caps would want to sign him up for 7D, and for 2 years???? Nope
Green- cap hit too low 5M+
Bowey- cap hit too high 750-900k
Carlson- too low 8M+
Beagle- too low 2M+
Green's coming off neck surgery.
Bowey, fine. But I'd rather have a low cap hit for three years to re-sign Backstrom, than nickel and dime him when it doesn't make any difference, and then have to choose between Bowey and Backstrom in two summers, so I built in incremental raises, like McPhee used to talk about, to keep that third year AAV down closer to what he'd sign for on a one year deal, rather than have it be a bridge-value deal in case the cap goes flat. I'd go up to 1.5Mx8years if he'd take it, and I've posted that, to much laughter, but it'd be super-team-friendly, given he was 10th in even strength points among rookie defensemen, even though he was a healthy scratch for almost thirty games. As a kid he had back to back sixty point season in junior, and he's developing pretty well. Should play more minutes each year and be a solid NHL guy.
Carlson, fine, whatever, but with other teams pencilling in offers all over this board at 7 years times eight equals 56, might not be necessary to push it all the way to 64, might be more about how it's structured and how quickly they back up that dump truck of dollars to his castle.
Beagle--I've been pencilling him in at three million, but I think that comes partly from how impressed I am when he always comes through in the playoffs. He's not going to fit into the Caps' salary structure at that. Nothing but respect. He plays several roles really well, but I think Carlson is first priority, and you have to build from the net out a bit?
