PIT says no, so automatically, Buffalo says no. Even with MTLs first, it'll be hard to convince Buffalo with that package. You're not doing the Sabres any favors by taking on Moulson, and they dont need a goalie prospect (they dont need a goalie at all). Sherbak is a roll of the dice. Lehkonen is the best piece coming back but he's nothing the Sabres dont have already in Olofsson, O'Regan, or Smith, save for the NHL experience already.

I agree that these trades won't work, but Montreal shouldn't overpay for O'Reilly. He's a very good player but he is not going to turn a bad team into a good one, as we have seen in Buffalo where for years he is just the top player on a team that almost always finishes dead last. I think a better scenario is that a team that is competitive already try and grab him, like St Louis or maybe Winnipeg if Statsny leaves.

Agreed, Sabres had their own issues though. I dont put the blame on ROR or Eichel, they are victims of circumstance
