Description

With few really top FAs available, and fewer of them likely to sign in Montreal, they should keep it simple and commit to the rebuild. Play the vets in the first part of the year and keep the younger players in the AHL. Start selling in 2019. Pacioretty should have a bounce back year since he'll be healthy and playing for what might be his last big pay day, so his value as a rental to a playoff bound team might be much better at the 2019 deadline. I love Byron's play but as a FA next year he could also be flipped for a decent pick. Plekanec can be traded again too. Between the 3 of them they should at least be able to get another 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at next year's draft. Compette in 2019/2020.

This is what they should be doing. Problem is that if Pacioretty, Price and Weber are all healthy Montreal will still be competitive. Have to at least trade Pacioretty for futures this off season, get rid of one if not two of their LHD and let a few more young guys into the line up.

Hopefully that leads to a lottery pick and see where we go from there.
