This is IF Leafs management wants to speed up the winning process. I know most Leafs fans believe they should be patient, but adding a couple young veterans to the squad wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Some interesting ideas here! I think we could also squeeze out Sonny Milano from the CBJ trade, or at least a little something else if we added maybe Belpedio (we'd be stocked on RHD with Dumba, Larsson, and Liljegren not to mention the guys we drafted and a little short on LW even with Kaprizov coming). I'd be fine giving up Granlund to a team if we got Wennberg. I'm not sure if the Leafs would be willing to give up both Kapanen and Liljegren, those are probably their best prospects but Brodin and Coyle are some really good players going back their way. I think Leafs fans won't like it, but I think it's fair (risky, though). This would set us up very nicely for the future

Interesting, but I think it's more likely Fenton tries to give it a run this year to see how things go when he's in charge. If things don't work out, then your idea may happen. Check out my roster I just posted. I think those trades are possible and those players could be had.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that we would most likely see Koivu, not Ek next to Parise and Anderson... which is where I value keeping Staal. I see Staal as the perfect piece to hold for the trade deadline if that becomes a reality / necessity.

It's risky to trade Staal now, and it's also risky to wait until the trade deadline to trade him. IF the Wild are having a great season, they won't trade him and either overpay him for too many years, or lose him for nothing. If Staal gets hurt, or has a mediocre season, his value drops dramatically! Because I do not think this team is a legitimate Cup contender, I think the most prudent play is to trade him this summer. I highly doubt idiot owner Leipold will sign off on trading him, but I still think it's the best thing to do for the long-term health of the franchise.
