Full disclosure, i'm not a leaf fan by any stretch. In fact I hate the leafs. But good for you guys getting JT.

But what are you going to do when Dubis needs to sign MARNER, MATTHEWS, KAPANEN, LEIVO (if he doesn't get traded but still wont make a ton of money). These guys are going to get paid and it wont be cheap. Matthews gets McDavid money. Nylander gets less than Marner and Marner gets a minimum of 7.5M (Comparable would be Draisaitl but I was very conservative).

NOW.... you are still missing 3 D, 2 FWD, and a back up goalie.

So give me your thoughts, who gets traded? Because you can't keep all of them, not even 2 years from now.

U overpaid Matthews a bit, he gets same as Tavares or only 10 per.

U overpaid leivo a bit and kapanen will get a bridge deal too that will be less too.

okay so take a away a million for each of leivo and kap. take 2 million away from matthews. that still gets you only 8mil in cap space.and you still need to sign 6 players. to be exact 2 top 4 D, a 5/6 D, 4th line centre and a back up tendy. The 2 top 4 D are going to eat up a minimum of 6M in cap space. Its sure going to be tight.

I don't think Matthews will get less than McDaddy though

I can see hating the Leafs, but try and make a reasonable lineup with players will be lineup before starting saying the Leafs can't afford signing player.
Grunstrom and Johnson should be starters with the Leafs this year. Figure their salaries. Goalie Sparks. Dmen. Likely Borgman, Liljegren maybe Rosen and Ozhinikov. Leivo not on team. Kapanen and Matthews, I'd say you've paid too much Martin is an easy trade especially with sweetener due to structure of his salary.
I'll agree a player...maybe Nylander will have to traded for cap reasons.

I just went off of their current line up. they are still going to be very tight if not over the cap for the season. So they will definitely be trading away salary. But all im asking is what you do? Who do you trade. And its going to have to be someone with a big salary.

I'm suggesting that if you make a 2019/20 lineup...you should go by the players that are probably going to in the lineup. And I agree it might be cap tight. Now that Tavares is in the fold, I've suggested a winger...and Leafs seem to lots, one might be have to be traded, and someone with significant cap, I have suggested Nylander is the guy to be traded. But this year and next year the Leafs appear to a number of cheap guys on ELCs or cheap RFAs who will NHL competent. That's what all good team have.

With the cap you just can't have guys making 2.5m playing 4th line minutes. Moving these contracts out will cost you assets to move and moving Marleau is not happening. He will get every penny from Toronto.
