You are also WAY undervaluing Matt Duchene. Remember, the cost of acquiring him for Ottawa was a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, a good D prospect, a former first round pick, and a solid forward prospect.

For any team to get Duchene, you will need something like: a 1st, a 2nd, a top prospect/young NHLer (Timo Meier), a decent defensive prospect (Jeremy Roy if he wasn't always hurt and actually developed), and probably some sort of roster player like Joonas Donskoi. Not seeing it happen with San Jose at all.

And I don't agree with you that Duchene ruins every team he is on. The Senators put a lot of assets in to get Duchene, and he had a lot of pressure on him to produce on a team that just stunk. Poor goaltending. Your all-world defenseman was hurt most of the season. A rather flat offense. Just a horrible season in Ottawa.

That was also the cost of Duchene with 2 years left on his deal. This is for one year of Duchene. A package of Tierney+Karlsson+2020 1st+2019 2nd gets it done I think. SJ maybe adds a mid-level prospect like Balcers/Chartier if necessary. Ottawa will not be dealing from a position of strength here as everyone knows that they have to get rid of him as there is zero chance he stays.

You sure? He wanted to go to Ottawa... I know it's a bad situation, but it's close to home for him and he could be their highest paid player real soon.

I agree you could use less to get him this year, but I think it's one of Tierney/Karlsson (more likely Tierney) + a 1st + a 2nd + a prospect. Maybe you don't need two prospects anymore.

I don't know if Chartier has a lot of value, but Balcers certainly does.

I was absolutely undervaluing Duchene, and I’m sure it’ll take more to get him, but the Sharks do have more to give and it wouldn’t require more than Tierney from the current roster.

He’s a phenomenal player, but let’s look at the situation too. He hasn’t played well regardless of who is to blame. He’s got 1year left on a team that should be looking to move him unless he’s planning on staying, and without an extension signed as of yet, that doesn’t appear to be the case. I certainly wouldn’t waste my time re-signing with a team that’s rebuilding while I’m in my prime and if OTT doesn’t ship him out soon, they’ll need to do it at the deadline with less suitors asking. I don’t think they’ll get nearly what they want, what he’s worth, or what they paid to get him (which frankly is entirely irrelevant to what he’ll trade for).
