Wow! What a Trade!

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2018
Published: Jul. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Moving Matt Martin (and his $2.5M cap hit) for someone not named Yakupov has to be one of the best trades Kyle Dubas has ever made. Now if we can assume he signs William Nylander for $5.4M (incl the 10% Tavares discount), that suggests a similar amount for Mitch Marner and $4.5M for Kasperi Kapanen. With Gardiner and Hainsey coming off the books next year ($7M) but Auston Matthews probably sucking up another $10M (additional), that means KD will need $11M in cap space at the end of this year to keep this team together for the foreseeable future. This can be done with a little bargain-basement hunting (although I'm not too happy with my fourth-line LW -- anyone have a better suggestion?).

Are we being Punked by this?
Where's Ashton?!

I know your joking around because you think Nylander and marner will sign for less then 6 million each.
Nylander will get 6.2 area - anything less is him doing Toronto a favor since he has had back to back 60 point seasons. (His Comparible is Ehlers but is able to play C. Worth alittle some money)
and Marner will get north of that considering he will probably be playing with JT all season, which will probably add about 20+ points to his last years numbers. So he will sign around 7 ish.

So you will have 11 for JT, 11(maybe more) for Mathews, Nylander at 6, and Marner at 7 million each. that's roughly 35 million coming down the pipes for the Leafs. They will be fun to watch, but they will have a tough time keeping pucks out of their net.

The leafs were in the top half of the league in goals allowed so they'll be fine at keeping pucks out of their net. Tampa and Washington allowed more goals than the Leafs did.

Well, we'll see, won't we? But you didn't address the primary point of the exercise -- can this team be kept together next year? This projection is an effort to refute all the other AGM's suggesting that the solution is to trade Nylander.

you can 100% keep this team together for this and next season. but as the season go on they will be more like the hawks. Trading away guys to fit under the cap or fill hole. but that's a good situation usually
