Edmonton says no to this deal. Erickson is an inferior player to Lucic, who had a bad year but a history of production. Would u consider retaining Erickson salary (1.5M) and adding a draft pick?

I'm not sure the 2nd rounds in the Weber trade are needed. Both teams will be at the bottom of the standings and will probably only result in a change of maybe 1-2 places in the 32-40 range... Not huge value to that and could easily backfire on the habs. I see something more like Van retains 50% salary on both Tanev and Hutton for Weber and the 2nd and 3rds outright. That said, is Montreal actually looking to unload Weber and his contract?
Hit cap hit the Canucks can certainly absorb, I think he would be an amazing dressing room guy and mentor to Juolevi, Woo and Hughes, his salary is more than workable and it's bringing a good BC-boy home to finish out his career, potentially. And even only playing 26 games last year, he's still basically 3rd/4th in scoring on the Canuck's backend from last year! squinty smile

While JB absolutely loves to throw in needless pics to deals, there is no way they should add a pick or retain salary of a "Change of scenery" trade between 2 of the worst contracts signed in 2016... Lucic being the worst contract of that UFA year.

There was talk of Edmonton trying to unload Lucic at the draft and the *ask* to take him and his contract was the 10th for a decent roster player back... Edmonton wasn't willing and kept the pick, which was smart.
But Lucic's contract is going to be a serious issue in moving him. Teams are going to want a lot of sweetener if they are going to give up anything in return for 5 more years at a 6mil hit. Especially since they would only try and unload him to free up cap space to resign players their RFAs this year and next... and EVERY GM knows that.
