Description
Dougie wants "difference makers". He went all in for tavares (a 75-85 pt player, roughly point per game and solid at both ends.)

There is ONE name that matches that resume: point per game, good at both ends, legit top line difference maker. 30 goal guy. At 28 years old or less, extendable for 7+ years...

Artemi Panarin. Thats its. Skinner, duchene, paccioretty and others are good. 60 pt guys. top 6 forwards. But, they are all a notch below panarin.

Panarin gets dealt from chicago and they crash. He goes to CLB and they make the playoffs and then he goes better than point per game in the POs. 30 goals. 80 pts. tops in +/- every year for his team. Still just 26.

He doesnt have the brand name which lower his price relative to some of the other "big names". To me, Panarin is THE guy to target and anyone other than cooch, hertl, or meier should be on the table. Labanc and Tierney are most obvious among forwards, but I think major picks is the answer. Then extend him for 8x9M, and you have a super star, at a reasonable price, just entering his prime, forever.

I think you’ll need better players to get Panarin, Jarmo wants to get a player is players to replace Panarin in the line up and you aren’t offering that, so you’d need better players. Sorry but my guess is that a trade with extension would start with Hertl or Couture......

AJP, you might be right. However, I am not sure he's gunna get it. Panarin is a great player, but he's been bouncing around and seems likely to be traded a second time in his short NHL stint. he doesnt have the brand value of tavares, even though he might have the numbers.

cooch is 100% not going. No way I can see dougie moving hertl or meier either. Given that, Labanc and Tierney are the only top 9 forwards under 26 that the sharks would dangle. If that doesnt get it done along with prospects and picks, then it doesnt get done.

SJ is not in desperation mode. They dont NEED Panarin. However, CLB cannot allow a tavares like departure. If Panarin isnt gunna resign in CLB, he'll have to be traded. I would doubt other teams would pony up 50-60 point young guns for him given his salary and term demands along with his multiple traded history, which is often (rightly or wrongly) considered a bad sign.
