Team: 2018-19 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2018
Published: Jul. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming we sign the remainder of our RFA's. Give Hayes the deal he is looking for, Gilmour & O'Gara on low bridge deals, Vesey on a bridge deal, Skjei on a team friendly deal for 4 years allowing him to still get another big contract when expires & than Spooner on a 1 year deal expecting him not to be part of future plans.

Howden & Meskanen impress in camp to make the team but could flip with Lettieri at anytime.

I am in rough agreement...

Not a fan of O'Gara...he's an AHL'er imo..
The rest of the money looks about right, though I would give Spooner 2...
On the subject of Spooner, I would let him center the 4th line, with Fast and Vesey, they should be able to beat up other team's 4th line. Meskanen will surprise and gets Spooner's minutes on the wing. This leaves Howden fighting for 1C minutes in Hartford, which would be much better for his growth.

I do not disagree with your statements. O'Gara is surely an AHL Dman, but I do think we retain him for the depth as he could play a poorly sheltered 3rd pairing if necessary. I do like the idea of spooner on the 4th line but i do hear Howden plays a strong 2 way game. Agree 100% that Meskanen or Howden will benefit more by playing 3rd line minutes or in the AHL 16+ min a night rather than on a 4th line. Also wouldnt be suprised if Chytil plays C & Anderson shifts to Wing as Anderson did play on Hayes wing when he was called up at the end of last year. As for Spooner i dont think he is part of the long term plans, so a 1-2 year deal makes sense. I think he gets dealt at the deadline to a contending team that needs some bottom 6 depth so depends if they want a pure rental or someone they can control for 1 more year.

Totally agree with this. If all goes well and Spooner produces similar to last year while Howden plays well in Hartford, the Rangers are likely to flip him for a 2nd or a prospect to a contender, with his replacement just waiting for a call up. It's not that Spooner is a bad player, he's just taking up a spot that the Rangers are going to need down the line.
