For all my Carolina Fan Friends on here (I don't know if any of them respect me)

Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2018
Published: Jul. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know enough about their depth to have a reasonable idea of where players should go in the lineup. This is more to show how Carolina would get a much better return for Faulk if they target a desperate team that misses out on Karlsson.

Carolina doesnt need Honka with players like Bean, McKeowan, etc. Try Roope Hintz instead, I’m not sure about his value though.

Rest assured if Dallas misses out on Karlsson, they'll be willing to part with a big piece if it means they upgrade their d. They can't afford to miss the playoffs again.

Hintz is a former Canes prospect I believe, Either that or he was the fa with med top 6 potential on NHL and I always signed him... probably the latter, but the Canes still don't need a prospect like him with players like Gauthier (Julien not Freddy) Aleksi Saarela, Janne Kuokkanen, Warren Foegele and others

Every team always needs good prospect, you can't possibly have too many. That's your future depth.

If a depth guy on your squad wants too much money, you trade him for future assets and bring one of your top prospects up to replace him for cheap. Of course that generally works best if you have elite talent in your core, and Carolina is still finding its core group of players.

Carolina's core is clear. You have Staal, Aho Teravainen, Necas Svechnikov Zykov McGinn Skinner Faulk Slavin Pesce Hamilton De Haan. It's there, get a goalie and be careful this team is dangerous

I think you should trim that by about half.

In my mind a core of a team is usually 4-6 players. These are the best players on the team and the ones that are the hardest to replace.

For example on the Maple Leafs, they have the core of Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly. I wouldn't add anyone else to that because I think they are replaceable. Eventually Liljegren and Dermott will earn their places in the core and at that time pershaps Rielly moves to a secondary position or something. But that group is a group you can build on for a decade.

In Carolina, they have a lot of prospects coming in that I think will develop into their core.

Staal, De Haan, Skinner and Faulk are definitely just support pieces. Some are too old to really be core players (Staal and De Haan) and Skinner and Faulk will be gone soon.

Once your 2 or 3 best forwards separate themselves from the rest of the forwards, you'd be best served with Slavin, Hamilton and 3-4 of your best forwards as your core. Teams that expand their core beyond a small group end up handing out big contracts to guys that can be replaced by younger and cheaper options without losing much talent in the lineup.

No way Nill deals Honka for Faulk, Honka is already going to be far better then Faulk.

Honka isn’t better then anyone on the Canes blue line. Getting the 2nd Pair RD is worth it from statistically the best D in the league.

You realise with the exceptions of Williams and Staal no one is older then 26? This is a young team and it’s entire blue line, it’s top 6 and hopefully soon it’s goalie could be considered a core.

Look what Montreal was able to do with terrible depth at centre. That is a huge hole!!
