Description
I'm assuming Zetterberg LTIRetires after this year. Re-signing Howard for 2 years at a small price gives the goalies in our system more time to develop.

Nyquist to San Jose at the deadline for 2nd and 3rd round picks seems reasonable to me given what we got for Tatar from Vegas.

There's been talk about the Oilers being open to moving Klefbom; Green gives them an experienced puck-moving D in return, Svechnikov and Saarijarvi are two young guys that can provide value on entry level deals. The 3rd round pick is included because even though Klefbom had a bad year this past season, he's on a good contract and should bounce back.

The Daley and Glendening trades were just to make room, I'm assuming returns on those guys would be minimal.

I'm assuming Duchene makes it to free agency, and we'd have a ton of money to spend. Overpaying for shorter term wouldn't handicap the Wings down the road, and would give them a really fast, solid option as 2C behind Larkin until Veleno or Rasmussen is ready to take on that role.

    I'm surprised by me saying this, but I don't hate it. $8M on Duchene is absolutely ludacris, but it's a short term deal and hopefully doesn't kill our team with how much cap we'd have. I'd prefer we go over somebody of higher caliber obviously (if available... Panarin, Seguin, Skinner, etc - mostly wingers but we could keep Nielsen as 2C for a year until Rasmussen or Veleno are able to play there).

    Regarding the Klefbom trade, I think it's feasible without including Svechnikov, personally. Not sure what EDM thinks.

    Yeah I don't disagree that it's too much, but with extensions needed for Mantha and Athanasiou, and a potentially big contract on the horizon for Zadina, I didn't want to give too much term. I used the Stasny deal from a few years ago as the base for it, and the fact that Duchene would only be 28 at the start of it. I don't think Panarin or Seguin would make it to free agency (maybe Panarin but I'm skeptical), but Skinner is an intriguing option I hadn't thought about.

    I was trying to be as objective as possible; I like Svechnikov and I don't want to see him moved, but I couldn't see Edmonton going for just Green, Saarijarvi, and a 3rd, and Svechnikov gives value without including one of our big prospects.
