Best Name in Hockey

Created by: Genosid7187
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 13, 2018
Published: Jul. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Penguins don't want to trade Letang, but if it means getting a swing wing to fill out the forward group and clarifying the cap situation the next couple years, it might be worthwhile. Faulk can QB a Powerplay (or Schultz even) just as well as Letang did.

Let Brassard and Hagelin walk next year, swing Haula to 3C and let youth fill in the LW. Leaves cap space to extend Guentzel and ZAR.

Sheahan for Glendening gives you a bit of cap security with a solid 4th line PKing, high FO% center locked up for 3 more years (with the added benefit of getting the best name in hockey as a backup GK).

Add or subtract draft picks to make it work, clearly the Penguins don't care about where they are drafting because they'll never draft high enough to get an immediate impact player.

So you want all three right D to be guys that need to be sheltered?

Also, selling low on a guy coming off an injury (with no offseason to prepare for the season last year) who was easily a top 10 defenseman two years ago is probably ill-advised.

Detroit declines. Sheahan has a slightly higher cap hit than LGD, and Sateri was literally just signed to fill a hole in the AHL.

It wasn't his physical ability that made him have a bad year last year (by his standards), he made mental errors that junior league players make and hung Dumo out to dry all year, especially in the playoffs. His stats weren't even bad because he is still good at making outlet passes and gets a lot of 200 foot assists not to mention the fact he QBs the powerplay. His defensive play was suspect, and if he couldn't mentally prepare himself for a full season of hockey he needs to see a sports psych like MAF did.

That being said, they're not trading Letang, this is just exploring options. I like the guy a ton, hoping he was just distracted by having an 8 month pregnant wife at home during the playoffs, that would probably make me check out too.

Perfect assessment on Letang. It wasn’t because of his skill, but the mental errors that are very fixable with a full and healthy offseason. If he limited some of those mental errors, he wouldn’t be getting as much hate as he has been getting. If he bounces back, then all of those fans that wanted him gone will love him again
