I really don't think our first round pick should be in play. Even if we are getting Duchene this is a really steep price to pay.

I also dont see how the asking price wouldnt NEED to include one of Debrincat or Schmaltz
If the asking price for Patches/Skinner/Faulk is one of those players, that Duchene wouldnt need the same on the return

Sikura and a 1st is more then asking for Schmaltz. Everyone here didn't understand this correctly as one news source reported it wrong, it was never Schmaltz plus for one of those players. It was Schamtlz and a 1st for Skinner AND Faulk at one point was the asking.

Melnyk won't retain on Ryan. Especially not that much. They wouldn't be saving money at that point at all, considering they have to land players like Anisimov and Rutta.

Value-wise, this trade is decent.

Its pretty arguable that duchene is the better player of all three of them. so more than likely it would be a schmaltz and a 1st for him alone. down year or not.

just cause you keep adding a lot more "ok/mediocre" assets doesn't mean it adds up to about equal. OTT is gunna want less quantity and more quality for their star players.

decent isnt even gunna cut it for Dorian and Melnyk at this point. If he does trade Karlsson and Duchene or anyone else hes gunna have to come out as the clear winner of that trade. or he's not gunna have a job anymore. for how much they gave up to get duchene. theyre are gunna need to get close if not more on that return.

Then the Hawks should say no. Duchene is good, but he's 5-7 years older than Schmaltz and Debrincat, and he's going to be asking for at least a $1m more on his next contract than either of them and that contract would take him into his 30 vs 20 for the kids. The Hawks aren't going to move Schmaltz not matter what it seems and it's unlikely for Debrincat as well.

And if you compare to what Colorado got for Duchene, there wasn't an established player amount them outside of Hammond - it was all picks and prospects. Ottawa may not even be able to get equal value to that since Duchene he has less term on his contract and is now technically a rental. But if we were to compare, it'd be something like:

Girard = Forsling (maybe change out for another defense prospect like Krys/Carlsson but Forsling is the most NHL ready)
Kamenev = Sikura (but more NHL ready)
Bowers = Altybarmakyan or Kayumov
Hammond = Forsberg
2018 1st = 2019 1st
2018 2nd = 2019 2nd
2019 3rd = 2020 3rd

Italics are what difference from the trade proposal above in comparison to the other trade. But Ottawa would have to take Anisimov + Rutta for it to work cap wise for the Hawks, but that's not a big deal - both could be flipped by Ottawa for other picks/prospects. The original trade above makes more sense when you put it in context of the already established value of Duchene from his previous trade, though some things need to be added.

^this x1,000. Everyone keeps trying to make these trades happen with large collections of mediocre if not borderline crappy players. Not only will it never work, it becomes a blatantly obvious cap relief for Chicago, and every other GM knows it... While everyone else on here seems to ignore it.
