Definitely not this year. They do have Schmaltz coming up and he’s been doing well in the AHL. I think they tried to bring him up too early which was why he didn’t do too great in his handful of games. If Schmaltz does well, I can see Parayko being expendable next year.

The natural trade partner after the Skinner trade is Carolina. They're flush on D and now look even more barren up front. Bean, Pesce or Slavin should be the focus for the leafs. They have the pieces to make it work.

I don't see the Blues trading Parayko...for a variety of reasons. However, the Blues do not have cap space to make what amounts to a 1 for 1 trade of Parayko and Nylander. Parayko is at $5.5 m and Nylander will likely be at ~$6.5 to 7 m. The Blues currently have about ~$250k in cap space. The math doesn't work. Sorry.

Again, I don't see the trade happening because the Blues are also high on Parayko and look at him as a replacement for Pietro in the future. However, that said, I could see:

Toronto receives Parayko and Steen (to make cap space)
Blues receive Nylander (signed to extension 7 or 8 years), Liljegren, 2019 1st round pick and maybe even a 2020 1st or 2nd round pick.

While Toronto fans are going to scoff at this trade suggestion and state that Blues fans are over estimating the worth of their player, you have to also keep in mind that the Blues currently are bargaining from a position of strength. I doubt that Army has reached out to the Leafs organization to make this trade happen, but instead the Leafs organization, if this is anything beyond someone's pipe dream trade suggestion, has reached out to the Blues for a RD that they want. Before all the other moves the Blues made in the offseason, a trade for Parayko might have been composed differently, but the Blues have no need to make this trade right now. Instead it is now the Leafs who are looking to bolster their defensive depth to support their offensive strength. That will change the dynamic of any trade for any organization not just this potential trade rumor.
