Boqvist is where it starts. They want more than what they gave up for him.

No, that's not where it starts and Columbus is in a bind. People on here way overvalue UFA's; Skinner being the most recent prime example. Panarin wants out of Columbus, they don't have a lot of leverage just like Skinner.

No team is going to give up their recently acquired top 10 pick prospect for a rental. Panarin is great and worth a ton but unless he guarantees an extension, his value just isn't going to be as high as you think. Panarin-Saad trade was more balanced because they both had 2-4 years left on their contract, not just one.

Chicago isn’t gonna pay if it’s a rental.

But that's what Panarin is unless there is some guarantee, which doesn't seem likely - he seems to want to hit FA and see what his options truly are.

Even if there was a guarantee he'd sign, Boqvist is likely off-limits for at least a bit. I'm trying to remember a time when a team traded their top 10 pick player the same summer they drafted him. Sergachev was traded a year after his draft, but for a player only 3 years older, not 9 years like. I think that's the quickest trade of such a highly drafted player but I only went back 10 years.

Though honestly, Panarin wouldn't put the current team over the top so if the Hawks thought he'd come back, they'd be better off waiting until next summer and just signing him as a UFA.
