Description
Through the month of august I'll make a quick review of the 31 teams and how they could improve the team short or long term depending on the team, via a trade or a sign. Today the Colorado Avalanche. It was fun to see the last team the year before by a mile to a team that didn't look out of place on the playoffs against the Présidents Trophy team. Colorado will want to repeat last year success. That's why they trade to get Grubauer to form a excellent duo with Varlamov. The defense looks good and the addition of Cole bring Stanley cup pedigree while allowing prospect Timmins or Makar to develop more. The main problem I think is the secondary scoring. The first line did most of the damage last year but they will need some support from the other lines. With that in mind I would suggest a trade at the trade deadline. Any positive comment is appreciated.

You're right that secondary scoring is an issue for COL, but I don't see Zuccarello being a good fit.
1) He's an upcoming UFA, and this won't be a year for COL to make a deep playoff push. Still rebuilding at this point
2) COL is trying to grow around its young core, and bringing in a 31-yr old (at TDL) doesn't help that. COL has been burned by aging veterans in the past few years
3) Tying into 1&2, giving up a 26-yr old (at TDL) Nieto and a couple prospects doesn't make a lot of sense. Even though you definitely get a talent upgrade from a 3rd/4th liner in Nieto

I would lean more towards players like Burakovsky, Stone, Panarin, Nylander, and JT Miller. I know those guys are very likely unobtainable, but that's more of the fit in age/top-6 quality. I think Sakic will ride out this year without major changes to the team, but we'll see.

Not bad. Like said previously, if they're a wildcard team I probably wouldn't. But if they prove they can win the division, maybe it's a decent gamble.

Zuccarello is so underrated. That's not gonna get him. Yes, he's a UFA in a year but the NYR can try to sign him and if he's traded NOW, they'd get more for a consistent 50 point scorer and sometimes 60-ish point scorer.
