Another Karlsson trade!? Whaaaaaaaaat?

Created by: Davisoc
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 16, 2018
Published: Aug. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Okay, so this one is a huge huge deal. Lots of contracts moving around and a lot of money. So lets try and make this all work.
Ottawa gets two immediate stud prospects that are NHL ready and only give up an expiring contract and someone that wants out. Ryan is shed with no retention because Edmonton moved out Lucic. Biggest trick here is Lucic NMC which could come into effect.

Note: for the trade, add in draft picks as needed.
Trades
OTT
  1. Bouchard, Evan
  2. Koskinen, Mikko
  3. Lucic, Milan
  4. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
  5. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  6. Sekera, Andrej
Additional Details:
Anderson is brought over to help share the load later in the season to rest Talbot. Sekera is moved to go on Ottawas LTIR and to make room for Karlsson encase he becomes healthy.

Add in draft picks as needed
EDM
  1. Anderson, Craig ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. Brown, Logan
  3. Karlsson, Erik ($2,500,000 retained)
  4. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
  5. Ryan, Bobby
Additional Details:
Bobby Ryan is signed on for one less year than Lucic and is faster so maybe able to play in Edmontons top six.

Karlsson is a sign and trade. maybe 8@ 9.5mill. He takes a little less to play with McDavid.

Add in draft picks as needed.

bad deal for Ottawa. we give up Karlsson, a good Defensive centre, our Best centre Prospect and our (aging) starter. we dump Ryan's contract, but take on even more bad money in the process in Sekera + Lucic. Bouchard is obviously amazing, and Puljujarvi still has potential despite being pretty mediocre so far in the NHL, but that's not close to enough for what we give up.

I think it can be with proper draft picks, like I said in the description. I just wasn't sure where the value was if it was a 1st plus other, only a first. That being said the best player in the trade is Karlsson, so I think a first should be going back to Ottawa, at least.

That trade has too many big deals moving back and forth. The Karlsson trade will likely not have that much going on from an NHL player standpoint. Pageau and Anderson will probably not be involved in the deal with Karlsson, so remove Sekera and Lucic. With that being said, the Sens probably don't need RNH, and he has such good chemistry with McDavid I don't think he moves either. So you give up Adam Larsson instead of RNH. That helps because the Sens will need defense. Bouchard is a good add (except that he was just drafted, and they really like the kid).

The trade would probably start with Bouchard (or a similar high-level prospect), a roster player with term and money (Adam Larsson), a young NHL-ready player (Puljujarvi maybe), and picks.

Honestly, if you look at what the Avs got for Duchene, you could see a good starting point if the trade was just Erik Karlsson. But since they "need" to trade Bobby Ryan in the deal, it will be a little bit less of a return.
