Description
This is not my ranking of the prospects! It is too soon to do that, just players and their comparison in terms of playing style and what I see in them. Also there are some players I surely forgot to add so write in the comments if I forgot some notable names.

Jack Hughes - Steve Yzerman (laser shot, exceptional playmaker and passer, exceptional skater, fantastic one-on-one)
Kaapo Kakko - Marián Hossa (defence-to-offence transition, shot, offensive abilities, defensive skills and perfect use of body in dirty areas)
Vasily Podkolzin - Phil Kessel (speed, skating and deadly shot, probably wouldnt be so productive as Kessel, but he has his skating)
Alex Newhook - Kyle Turris (skating abilities, similar junior numbers and they have very similar offensive skillset and two-way game)
Bowen Byram - Cam Fowler (skating, frame and both are similar styles offensively while keeping it smart in their own zone)
Philip Broberg - Mattias Ekholm
Kirby Dach - Ryan Getzlaf
Dylan Cozens - Ryan Johansen
Raphael Lavoie - Anthony Mantha
Anttoni Honka - Ľubomír Višňovský
Peyton Krebs - Paul Kariya (less offensive, more physical version)
Alex Turcotte - Logan Couture
Maxim Cajkovic - Marián Gáborík
Cole Caufield - Alex DeBrincat
Nolan Foote - Jamie Benn
Jakob Pelletier - Alexander Radulov
Arthur Kaliyev - Drew Stafford
Mikko Kokkonen - Markus Nutivaara
Matthew Robertson - Ryan McDonagh
Cam York - Will Butcher

Nice comparison and team. I am glad someone knows a lot about the 2019 draft class. I have done my own research on the 2019 draft. There isn’t much out there.

Thanks. I would say that top-20 or top-30 would be very very good and then not so much goodness left. Not so deep draft but 1st round should be great. In 2018 the 2nd round was almost as good as 1st round in 2012 lol. This draft in 2018 was scary great.

@SammyT_51 what's your general opinion on the 2019 draft. I think it's super top heavy with not much depth like 2009.

Exactly what Im thinking. 2019 draft would have scary great 1st round which might get close to 2003 but from 2nd round on not much NHL talent.

lots of people think this draft is the deepest in a while. It also has some real top end skill with Hughes. This last draft was ok, it lacked high end talent though. There were no players in it that made you think they were on the same level as a Matthews or McDavid. But Hughes could be. By the lower teens most the players were far off the top.

I gotta disagree. This last draft was on the same level as draft of 2003 and 2015 and many players from later rounds would play in NHL. I would call Svechnikov and Dahlin top end talent. Dahlin is on same level as McDavid and Hughes. 2019 draft has top end talent in Hughes and especially first round would be fantastic, BUT later rounds would be bad.

The 1st round of a draft in general has about mid to upper 50% chance of being a career player. I would say this last draft is on par with that. Not greater. The top was ok but the bottom not so much. Lot of 2nd round talents down there. When people start saying 2nd round talents are 1st round talents in a draft that is usually a bad sign. It means the top of the draft isn't all that good. As for the top end talent I do think Dahlin will be a good player, but not on the same level as a Hughes or Matthews. I would say most people generally agree with that. The whole feeling of the last draft was the real prize is next year. It's not that Dahlin or Swechnikov won't be good players, it's that they aren't of the same caliber. If any of those players were in the same draft as Hughes, Hughes would still be going 1st. You can insert Matthews or McDavid instead of Hughes and the same would be true.
There is a significant drop off as far as top level talent at last years draft compared to next years.
It's one of the reasons why this last draft wasn't as deep. You were already looking at lower level talent on the top. My guess is Dahlin would have went 3rd or maybe 4th next year maybe lower. Hughes, Krebs, Maybren (think that's the spelling) could all have gone over him. Next year is definitely a deeper draft, especially at the top.
