Leafs in two years

Created by: Goleafsgo1978
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2018
Published: Sep. 23, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The 85 million cap is based on a reasonable growth expectation especially if Seattle joins the league .

- Sign Faulk as a UFA the Cap Hit May be low but he will be playing on Carolina’s third pair so his value may drop a bit .

- Marner /Mathews / Nylander all have to take a little less then their max value to make the cap work like Taveras did .

- Sandin has looked good so far in camp so he should be ready for sheltered NHL minutes in two years .

- Callahan will be brought in on a PTO by this point of his career , (just a guess based on his production last year )

Faulk is not the answer ( -95 in last four years as one of his flaws, true tho hes playing on weak team ), not to mention contract you set him....

Reilly is a -70 for his Career , but has improved drastically under Babcock . I believe Faulk has played in front of some bad bad goalies on weak defensive teams .

Also the leafs can not afford a top tier RD with their cap situation, so I went with a second tier UFA at a reasonable cap hit that didn’t cost them any assets .

Cap issues will arise with Andersen needing a raise.

Faulk? C'mon. I not saying they are going to ready by 2020/21, but Leafs are hoping that top for Dmen in the past two years are NHL ready. Liljegren, Sandin, Rasemum and Durzi, then you have current Leafs/prospects Borgman, Rosen, Ozhignkov, plus Reilly, Zaitsev, Dermot... That's ten
Seattle will not in the league by 2019/20 which year that sets the cap for 2020/21. Still the cap could go up by it's own by 3% to 82.9 next year and 85.4 in 2020/21.

You're right, but like all teams, do you pay a premium for keeping your own UFA, or do you find another UFA? Or in the Leafs case is Sparks, Picard, Kasimar or Woll ready to be the starters or will be cheaper and in Kaimaar and Woll's be young and cheap starters. (but how good?)
Lights liked this.

I have 5 of those players listed , Reilly, Dermott , Liljegren , Sandin and Zietsev.

Rasanen signed for 2 years in the KHL to work on his skating . He May never play NHL games since he is being scratched in the KHL and looks really slow .

- Durzi will need at least a couple years in the AHL to develop before he would be ready for top 4 minutes .

- Rosén and Borgman are LD

- Oziganov is A RD but does not look much more then a 4-5 D at best but Probably a good 5-6 penalty killer in the end .

All good serviceable Dmen but volume does not equal quality .

Did you have a affordable top pair RD to suggest ?

Seth Jones would be great !! he finished 4th in Norris trophy voting last year .

The only problem is Columbus is not looking at trading him and the package you would have to offer would cost you a lot . Also I don’t think Dubas is willing to gut his roster or farm system to get him .

What does that trade look like in your opinion?
