And why would that be? Of course this is if they are out of the POs

Because other teams will offer far more. First round pick, high level prospect and roster player. He popped 42 last year at a bargain bin price. If he's close to that pace again think bjork, Zboril, and a conditional first/second

You’ve gotta be kidding right? This an aging rental who sure as hell won’t put up as many goals this year.

andddd what was Nash last year? he went for a first (same value as this years first), Spooner (as much if not more value than Bjork), Ryan Lindgren (similar, but slightly less value than Zboril), and admittedly, a tiny 1 million dollar cap dump.

This is an aging center with playoff pedigree as a tough to play against, big body (and unlike Nash, he actually uses it), who has rejuvenated himself as a dynamic scorer over the last two seasons, at half the cap hit of nash (less actually). He's worth far more than Nash. Now, that trade was a massive overpay, so I think a similar package is reasonable.
